    • The new curriculum outcomes were mapped to PQF, AQRF, and Reframed Teacher Education Program Outcomes.
    • Outputs from the writeshop will be presented in public hearings for feedback, reflecting MSU-IIT’s commitment to improving education.

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) continues to contribute to shaping education policy in the Philippines through active faculty involvement. Professors from the Department of Science and Mathematics Education (DSME) of the College of Education represented the university at a three-day Development Writeshop held in Manila from August 18–20, 2025.

Professor Manuel B. Barquilla, together with Associate Professors Edna B. Nabua and Jun Karren V. Caparoso, joined science education experts from across the country to refine the curriculum for the Bachelor of Education (BEd) program. The program now includes specializations in General Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Earth and Space Sciences. Prof. Barquilla focused on Biological Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Nabua worked on Physical Sciences, while Assoc. Prof. Caparoso contributed to Earth and Space Sciences.

During the writeshop, the faculty developed a curriculum framework, outlined program outcomes with corresponding indicators, and identified courses for each specialization. They also aligned the new program outcomes with the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), the ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF), and the Reframed Teacher Education Program Outcomes.

The workshop outputs will be presented in zonal public hearings across the country to gather feedback from stakeholders. Following these consultations, the curriculum development teams will revise the specializations accordingly.

The Development Writeshop was organized by the Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ), a collaboration between Philippine Normal University and the University of New England, Australia, with support from the Australian Government. RITQ serves as the research arm for both the Commission on Higher Education’s Technical Panel for Teacher Education and the Department of Education’s Teacher Education Council.

MSU-IIT’s active role in this initiative highlights its commitment to improving the quality of education nationwide and supporting the professional growth of future teachers.
