MSU-IIT and BSRU Expand Partnership in Sustainability Education

    • MSU-IIT and BSRU sign a new agreement focused on environmental education
    • Partnership creates global exposure, skills training, and sustainability careers
    • Students gain hands-on learning through conservation and field programs

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) has signed a second formal agreement with Thailand’s Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU), strengthening international cooperation in environmental science, sustainability, and skills-based education.

The agreement was signed at the BSRU campus in Bangkok during the 2nd NSRU International Conference held in January 2026. Senior leaders from both universities attended the ceremony, highlighting a strong commitment to long-term academic collaboration and sustainability-focused learning.

The new Memorandum of Agreement focuses on developing students, faculty, and staff in environmental conservation and sustainability. It is positioned as a partnership aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a clear emphasis on quality education, employable skills, and responsible environmental practices.

Under the agreement, MSU-IIT will send Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science students to BSRU for structured volunteering and field-based programs. These activities will take place in Bangkok and nearby communities, allowing students to apply classroom learning to real-world conservation work. The exposure is expected to strengthen practical skills, global awareness, and job readiness.

Beyond student mobility, the partnership includes joint research initiatives in areas such as green tourism, sustainable hospitality, and ecotourism policy. The universities will also co-develop learning materials and training manuals to support conservation-focused academic programs.

A joint working group will oversee the partnership, ensuring projects remain effective and sustainable. The agreement will run for three years, with both institutions planning to seek additional support from government bodies, industry partners, and international organizations.

This latest deal marks the fourth major collaboration between MSU-IIT and BSRU and signals a shift from event-based cooperation to a more structured, long-term partnership. The move reinforces both universities’ shared goal of producing skilled graduates ready for sustainability-driven careers across Asia.
