The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is implementing AI education in schools as early as kindergarten. The country has put itself at the vanguard of worldwide education reform, signaling its dedication to bringing up future-proof generations with the talents required for the fast-changing digital era.
This new development was made public on the X account, previously Twitter, of the UAE prime minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The post states, "As a part of the long-term UAE plans to equip generations to come with a different future, a new world, and new skills, the UAE government approved today the final curriculum to add 'Artificial Intelligence' as a subject to all levels of government education in the UAE, from kindergarten up to grade 12, from the next academic year".
We welcome the initiative of the Ministry of Education in establishing an in-depth curriculum, with the assurance that artificial intelligence will revolutionize the way the world lives. Our objective is to educate our children with an in-depth knowledge of AI from a technical point of view and promote their consciousness of the ethics of this new technology, further increasing their knowledge of its data, algorithms, applications, risks, and its relationship with society and life".
The statement concluded with the note that the aim of making such a decision to introduce the study of AI for all school levels was to provide students with new abilities that will fit the new world conditions that they are living in today.
The move comes in line with the UAE's overall national strategy for artificial intelligence, originally released in 2017. Dubbed the UAE AI Strategy 2031, the project seeks to establish the country as a global AI leader by weaving advanced technology across sectors like education, healthcare, and transportation.
