NUS Opens PhD Scholarship with S$2,200 Monthly Stipend for 2027 Intake

  • The National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy PhD Scholarship, offering international students a monthly stipend of S$2,200. Pakistani students are eligible to apply for the August 2027 intake.

    Applications opened on 1 August 2026 and will close on 10 December 2026. Candidates must submit their applications online through the NUS Graduate Admission System, known as GradApp. The scholarship is considered as part of the regular PhD admission process.

    International students selected for the award will receive S$2,200 per month. After successfully passing the PhD Qualifying Examination, the stipend rises by an additional S$500, taking the monthly amount to S$2,700. Singapore Permanent Residents receive S$2,400 per month, while Singapore Citizens are paid S$2,800, with both groups also eligible for the post-examination increase. Singapore Citizens additionally receive Central Provident Fund contributions.

    National University of Singapore lists the typical duration of the scholarship as three years. However, the maximum period allowed to complete the PhD at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy is five years. No service bond is attached to the scholarship.

    The opportunity is open to Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, and international applicants. Pakistani candidates who hold a relevant Master’s degree and have a strong academic background in the social sciences can apply. The school prefers applicants with at least two years of relevant work experience and a clear interest in international affairs and public policy research.

    Applicants are required to submit two academic references. Those whose previous education does not meet the school’s English language requirements may need to provide an IELTS or TOEFL score. Successful candidates typically achieve around IELTS 7.0 or an equivalent TOEFL result.

    The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy evaluates applications based on academic record, research potential, and overall suitability for doctoral study. Interested students are advised to prepare their research proposals and supporting documents early to meet the December deadline.
