Anchorpoint & PwC Launch TAP for Tokenised Money Education

  • Anchorpoint Financial Limited has launched the Tokenised Money Adoption Programme (TAP), an industry initiative dedicated to education, research and dialogue on tokenised money in Hong Kong. PwC Hong Kong has joined as the inaugural strategic partner under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two organisations.

The programme arrives as regulated tokenised money in the city moves from infrastructure development into practical implementation and commercial use. Following the start of beta access for HKDAP, Anchorpoint’s regulated Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, the company identified a growing need for wider industry discussion on how tokenised money can be used, operated and applied across the economy.

TAP will bring together participants from financial services, payments, technology, digital assets and the corporate sector through workshops, research projects and industry discussions. It will focus on three main areas: education and enablement of tokenised products and services, research and development of technical and market standards, and the exploration of real-world use cases for tokenised money.

As the first strategic partner, PwC Hong Kong will contribute its industry experience and insights to support the programme’s education and research work.

Dominic Maffei, Chief Executive Officer of Anchorpoint, said: “We are pleased to partner with PwC Hong Kong to foster constructive dialogue on tokenised money as Hong Kong embarks on a new chapter in digital assets. Following the launch of Hong Kong-first regulated stablecoin HKDAP, market attention is shifting towards implementation and practical use cases that can unlock value for the broader economy. As the market develops, there is a growing need for informed discussion and knowledge sharing across industry participants. Through TAP, we hope to provide a platform for these conversations, contribute to the development of the sector, and look forward to bringing together more like-minded partners.”

Peter Brewin, Digital Assets Leader at PwC Hong Kong, said: “We are excited to partner with Anchorpoint to accelerate the adoption of tokenised money in Hong Kong through TAP. Businesses across diverse sectors have shown increasing interest in adopting innovative fintech solutions in their daily operations to raise cost efficiency and productivity. With our comprehensive professional services, PwC Hong Kong stands ready to support its clients in seizing the enormous opportunities arising from the transformation of Hong Kong into a leading global digital financial centre.”

Anchorpoint is a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and a joint venture formed by SCBHK, HKT and Animoca Brands. In April 2026 it became one of the first two firms granted a stablecoin issuer licence by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority under the Stablecoins Ordinance. HKDAP is fully backed by high-quality liquid reserves, redeemable one-to-one for Hong Kong dollars, and runs on public blockchain infrastructure with bank-grade compliance standards.

Beta access for institutional distributors and professional investors began in August 2026. Authorised distributors include Standard Chartered, HashKey Exchange, OSL, Finloop and Yunfeng Financial. Early applications centre on cross-border payments, settlement of tokenised real-world assets and enterprise payment solutions. The longer-term approach follows a business-to-business-to-consumer model that could support wider participation over time, subject to market conditions.

Tokenised money offers near-instant settlement, greater transparency, programmability and the potential to lower costs compared with traditional payment systems. For companies this can mean more efficient treasury operations, faster trade settlement and improved liquidity. For Hong Kong it supports the city’s goal of strengthening its position as an international financial centre and a hub for digital asset innovation in Asia.

While the regulatory framework and issuance systems are now in place, broader adoption depends on shared understanding. Banks need clarity on integration and risk management. Corporates require practical guidance on operational benefits. Technology and payment firms must develop interoperable solutions and consistent standards. TAP is designed to address these needs by creating structured platforms for knowledge exchange rather than one-way information sharing.

The three focus areas of the programme are deliberately practical. Education and enablement will help participants understand the features, risks and opportunities of regulated tokenised products. Research into technical and market standards aims to encourage consistent industry approaches. Exploration of real-world use cases will highlight applications that deliver measurable value, from logistics and trade finance to tokenised fund distribution and cross-border settlements.

PwC Hong Kong’s involvement brings expertise in digital assets, regulatory advisory, risk and controls, and business transformation. The partnership signals that major professional services firms view tokenised money as a material development for clients across banking, payments, asset management and the corporate sector.

TAP is expected to begin activities in the fourth quarter of 2026 with workshops and discussions involving subject-matter experts and industry leaders. Anchorpoint has said it welcomes additional partners who share the goal of advancing responsible and practical adoption of tokenised money in Hong Kong.

The initiative comes as Hong Kong continues to build its digital asset ecosystem. Alongside the Stablecoins Ordinance, the city has been developing frameworks for virtual asset service providers, tokenised funds and related innovations. Regulated stablecoins such as HKDAP are widely seen as foundational building blocks that can support both the modernisation of traditional finance and new digital-economy applications.

Market participants now face a clear shift: the infrastructure phase is advancing, and attention is turning to adoption, standards and real economic impact. Through the Tokenised Money Adoption Programme, Anchorpoint and PwC Hong Kong are providing a collaborative platform to help the industry navigate this next stage.
