- PTTEP, Sarawak Oil, and Yayasan UTP sign scholarship pact to develop Malaysia’s future energy sector talent
- Program covers tuition, living allowances, and lodging for engineering and technology students at UTP
- Partnership aims to provide holistic support, build soft skills, and create a pipeline of skilled Malaysian energy professionals
PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), Sarawak Oil Limited, and the Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Yayasan UTP) have signed a formal collaborative scholarship agreement to develop future talent in Malaysia's energy sector. In the new partnership, PTTEP commits to sponsoring selected scholars through the payment of their university tuition fees, living allowances, and lodging while studying engineering and technology at UTP.
The effort is couched as a public-private undertaking to increase access to high-quality education and assist with relieving financial burdens that usually keep promising students from realizing their full potential. Yayasan UTP secretary-general Ratna Mohd Tawil emphasized the value of the partnership in changing lives and creating balanced professionals.
She recognized the challenges that many bright students encounter when attempting to enter higher learning, and stated that the programme seeks not just to facilitate academic achievement, but also to develop soft skills to prepare graduates to excel in a competitive, rapidly changing environment. Ratna characterized the strategy as 'holistic', aimed at instilling confidence and flexibility in the scholars.

On the part of PTTEP, Al Ashraf Zarif Al Bakri, Malaysia's Brownfield Asset operations head, highlighted that the scholarship is consistent with the company's sustainable development and corporate social responsibility stance. He said that investing in home-grown talent helps PTTEP create a pipeline of Malaysian engineers for the country's energy sector while helping build communities in which it operates in the long term.
The initial batch of students under this program will start their university life in the next academic intake, mirroring PTTEP's and Yayasan UTP's collective vision in empowering the future generation of energy professionals for national development.
