AboitizPower, Bataan Government Launch PHP 10M Engineering Scholarship Fund for 200 Students

    • AboitizPower and Bataan Provincial Government signed a five-year MOA to fund engineering scholarships.
    • PHP 10 million total, with PHP 2 million disbursed annually starting April 2025.
    • 200 engineering students at Bataan Peninsula State University – Main Campus and Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Mariveles.

AboitizPower and the Provincial Government of Bataan have joined forces to launch a PHP 10 million scholarship fund aimed at supporting 200 engineering students at Bataan Peninsula State University and Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Mariveles. This initiative was formalized through a five-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), with AboitizPower committing PHP 2 million annually starting April 2025.

The scholarship program, administered by AboitizPower’s private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD)—is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility campaign, P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S., specifically its 'E' pillar focusing on elevating educational opportunities. The fund will benefit students enrolled at the two universities, enabling them to pursue engineering degrees with financial support.

Bataan Governor Jose Enrique 'Joet' Garcia expressed his gratitude toward AboitizPower, emphasizing the importance of education in fostering a capable and progressive community. “We express our deepest gratitude to AboitizPower for their unwavering partnership with our Provincial Government”, Garcia said.

This new agreement builds on earlier efforts by GMEC and GNPD, which have collectively supported 206 scholars since 2015, with 50 already having graduated. The expanded fund will now accommodate an additional 200 scholars, strengthening Bataan’s 'Iskolar ng Bayan' program.

AboitizPower Transition Business Group COO Celso Caballero praised the impact of the scholarship program. “These aren’t just numbers on a page, these are stories of transformation”, he remarked, highlighting the company’s commitment to education.

Among the beneficiaries is Rainiel Salandanan, a student from Bataan Peninsula State University, who shared how the scholarship has eased his family’s financial burden. “I no longer need to ask my parent for money, no longer having to worry about my other needs”, he said.

As one of the Philippines’ largest power producers, AboitizPower continues to invest in education as part of its broader mission to contribute to national development. The company operates over 50 facilities nationwide, maintaining a balanced portfolio of renewable and thermal energy sources.
