BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) is playing a pivotal role in advancing the UAE’s research and innovation ecosystem, contributing significantly to the nation’s ambition of becoming a global hub for knowledge-driven growth.
In a major boost to the country’s innovation agenda, the campus has recorded impressive achievements in research output, funding, doctoral education, and industry collaboration during the 2025–26 academic year.
According to details released by the institution, BPDC produced 290 research publications over the past year. This includes 140 journal articles, 93 conference papers, 25 book chapters, three books, and 29 preprints. Nearly half of these publications appeared in peer-reviewed journals, underscoring the campus’s commitment to high-quality, impactful research.
In a landmark achievement, the campus secured a prestigious AED 2.5 million industry-sponsored research project from Human BioSciences Inc., USA. This collaboration highlights growing international confidence in BPDC’s research capabilities and its alignment with global industry needs.
Prof. Shrikant Charde, Faculty-In-Charge, Grants Consultancy and Industrial Research (GCIR) at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, said, “The growing number of industry collaborations and funded research projects reflects the confidence that global organisations place in BPDC’s research capabilities and our ability to deliver solutions with real-world relevance".
A key pillar of BPDC’s research growth is its expanding doctoral programme. The campus welcomed 25 new PhD scholars during the 2025–26 academic year, taking the total doctoral enrolment to 134 students. This represents a 22.9% increase over the previous year and a compound annual growth rate of approximately 17.5%.
The surge in PhD scholars demonstrates BPDC’s strategic focus on building long-term research capacity and fostering the next generation of innovators and scientists in the UAE.
Research at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus spans critical and emerging fields including artificial intelligence, healthcare technologies, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, cybersecurity, photonics, advanced materials, sustainability, marketing, economics, and management sciences.
Notable achievements include an international patent for an AI-based machine learning solution that predicts nitrogen levels in wastewater, aiding environmental monitoring. Faculty members are also making strides in wearable and implantable bioelectronics, healthcare technologies, and photonic systems. Many serve as reviewers for top international journals and conferences, further elevating the campus’s academic standing.
Prof. S. Vincent, Associate Dean, Academic Graduate Studies and Research Division (AGSRD), BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, commented, “Our focus is on creating a research environment where faculty and doctoral scholars can pursue interdisciplinary work that addresses real-world challenges while contributing to global scientific knowledge".
Beyond academic research, BPDC is actively fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The campus’s incubation ecosystem supports startups in healthcare, artificial intelligence, and deep technology. One standout success is Aayu AI, which was selected for the prestigious Google for Startups programme for its potential to transform personalised healthcare through AI.
Professor Souri Banerjee, Director, BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, highlighted the institution’s alignment with national goals: “The UAE has created an enabling environment for research, innovation and entrepreneurship. At BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, we are committed to generating knowledge that benefits industry and society while supporting the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leader in science, technology and innovation".
