Cebu Pacific & DLSU Launch Aviation Engineering Training Program

    • Cebu Pacific partners with De La Salle University for a hands on aviation engineering program.
    • Students will work on real airline projects, including aircraft maintenance and sustainability solutions.
    • The program supports CEB’s goal of growing local aviation talent and industry ready graduates.

Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ top airline, has joined forces with De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila to launch a training program aimed at developing the next generation of Filipino aviation engineers.

The collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), will run for five years under the Design Engineering Program. It gives selected DLSU engineering students the chance to gain real world experience by working directly with Cebu Pacific’s technical experts. Their work will focus on smart systems for aircraft maintenance and eco-friendly mobility projects for the airline’s facilities.

These projects will not just be practice exercises they will count as the students' thesis or capstone projects required for graduation.

“This partnership invests in more than just technology, it invests in people,” said Shevantha Weerasekera, CEB’s Vice President for Engineering and Fleet Management. “We’re guiding young engineers to innovate and shape the future of Philippine aviation”.

For its pilot batch, 25 DLSU students were selected to participate. This marks the airline’s first official partnership with a university that directly links academic learning with operational airline needs.

Cebu Pacific also revealed plans to roll out similar programs in other schools in the coming years. The initiative aligns with its broader efforts to strengthen the aviation sector by nurturing homegrown talent.

Earlier this year, in May 2025, the airline launched its OFW Balikbayan Program to encourage experienced overseas engineers to return and contribute to the local industry.

With these efforts, Cebu Pacific hopes to create a strong pipeline of skilled aviation professionals ready to meet the demands of a growing airline industry in the Philippines and beyond.
