CPU Conducts Seminar-Workshop On Research-Based Test Skills

    • Central Philippine University (CPU) conducted a seminar-workshop on April 10, 2026, focused on improving teacher-made test construction and strengthening assessment literacy among faculty members.
    • The training, led by CPU academic experts, covered research-based methods for designing valid, reliable, and meaningful assessments across different test formats.
    • The initiative reflects CPU’s commitment to faculty development and quality education by helping educators align teaching, learning outcomes, and evaluation practices.

The Central Philippine University (CPU) continues to strengthen its commitment to academic excellence and faculty development through a research-driven initiative on assessment literacy. On April 10, 2026, the CPU Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CPU-CTLE), in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Review, Continuing Education, and Consultancy Center (RCECC), and the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), conducted a full-day seminar-workshop on teacher-made tests titled 'Constructing Valid and Meaningful Teacher-Made Tests' at the CPU Henry Luce III Conference Room.

The education seminar-workshop aimed to enhance educators’ ability to design valid, reliable, and meaningful assessments rooted in research-based principles. It focused on strengthening assessment literacy in higher education, with objectives centered on applying testing theories, improving test quality, and refining existing classroom assessment tools used by faculty members.

Led by experts from CPU, the program featured structured sessions on multiple forms of test construction. CPU-CTLE Director Dr. Sabijon opened the workshop with discussions on measurement, evaluation, and effective test design, emphasizing evidence-based teaching practices. His session on multiple-choice test construction highlighted practical strategies grounded in academic research. Known for his contributions to education and research, Dr. Sabijon has received multiple distinctions, including recognition from the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP).

Other academic leaders enriched the training, including Dr Eden P. Gomez of CPU College of Education, who focused on matching-type assessments, and Prof. Rea Angelica F. Villeza, who discussed true-or-false test construction. Dr Lenny Rose P. Mucho of CPU-RCECC provided insights into objective supply-type assessments and structural test integrity.

The workshop used interactive lectures and hands-on activities, allowing 29 faculty participants from 10 academic units to critique and improve test items. The session emphasized practical application, ensuring teachers could immediately integrate improved assessment techniques into their classrooms.

University leaders, including CPU President Rev. Dr Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, underscored the importance of aligning instruction, learning outcomes, and assessment. The initiative reflects CPU’s ongoing commitment to faculty development, lifelong learning, and quality education in the Philippines, reinforcing its mission to equip educators with stronger, research-based teaching and evaluation skills.
