The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has been honored with the Outstanding Stakeholder Award by the Department of Education, Schools Division Office of Quezon City, during the 6th Gawad Kaagapay ceremony held at the VS Hotel and Convention Center. The recognition highlights the FDCP’s steadfast support and ongoing partnership with the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Center for Media Arts (ELJ CMA) Senior High School, reflecting the council’s commitment to advancing quality education through film and media.
The citation underscores the FDCP’s pivotal role in enriching the school’s academic environment, particularly by promoting film education, media literacy, and capacity-building initiatives for both learners and teachers. A cornerstone of this collaboration has been the work of the FDCP’s Academic Film Society (AFS), which seeks to nurture the next generation of Filipino filmmakers by providing hands-on, practical learning experiences.
Last year, the AFS led a two-day intensive 'Script to Screen' masterclass at the ELJ Theater, immersing students in the technical and creative processes of scriptwriting and visual storytelling. The program aimed not only to enhance students’ creative skills but also to build confidence and competence in navigating the fundamentals of film production, reflecting FDCP’s broader mission to integrate media arts into formal education.
Seymour Sanchez, FDCP Technical Consultant for Academic Linkages, received the award alongside ELJ CMA Senior High School Principal Romelita Tumaneng. Sanchez remarked, “This recognition is a testament to the power of collaboration between government agencies and educational institutions. By introducing students to the art and craft of filmmaking early on, we hope to inspire a new generation of storytellers who can contribute to the growth of Philippine cinema while fostering critical thinking and creativity in the classroom”.

The annual Gawad Kaagapay honors exceptional education partners who have consistently supported public education in Quezon City. Beyond the award, it also serves as a platform for dialogue between DepEd and its partners, promoting continued collaboration and innovation in the public school system.
FDCP’s recognition reflects its active engagement in nurturing learning communities that embrace creativity and media literacy. Moving forward, the council and DepEd are exploring additional ways to support public schools, particularly under the strengthened Senior High School curriculum. These initiatives aim to ensure that students not only gain technical knowledge but also develop a passion for storytelling, critical analysis, and cultural expression qualities essential to sustaining the future of Philippine cinema.
Through its ongoing partnership with ELJ CMA and other educational institutions, the FDCP continues to demonstrate how arts and education can intersect, creating pathways for students to explore, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s cultural landscape.
