Formula 1 Launches Global Learning Program With British Council

    • Formula 1 has extended its Learning Sectors programme with the British Council for two more years, expanding to China, Spain, and Mexico to reach nearly 250,000 students globally.
    • The programme uses F1 to inspire STEM learning, enhance communication and presentation skills, and introduce media and broadcast modules, focusing on girls and underrepresented youth.
    • Students benefit from hands-on experiences like coding challenges, cross-border projects, online events, and behind-the-scenes access to F1 races, fostering innovation and future STEM careers.

Following a hugely successful pilot year that engaged over 150,000 young people across the UK, India, Brazil, and South Africa, Formula 1 has announced the extension of its collaboration with the British Council for another two years to deliver the F1-inspired education programme, Learning Sectors. The expanded initiative will now reach F1 host nations China, Spain, and Mexico, aiming to involve nearly 250,000 students in more than 1,000 schools worldwide.

Launched in January 2025, Learning Sectors brings the world of Formula 1 directly into classrooms, inspiring young people to explore STEM subjects Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths while also developing critical communication and presentation skills. The new programme will introduce a module inspired by Formula 1’s broadcast and production capabilities, allowing students to strengthen their presentation skills and discover potential careers in media alongside STEM, with a focus on girls and young people from underrepresented backgrounds.

In its first year, schools in India, South Africa, and the UK collaborated on cross-border F1-inspired STEM projects, while students in Brazil completed a coding challenge to build technical skills. Participants also connected with Formula 1 professionals through the Learning Sectors Live online event, and competition winners gained behind-the-scenes access at the Formula 1 Qatar Airways British Grand Prix 2025. Highlights included a paddock and garage tour at the Formula 1 MSC Cruises Grande Premio de Sao Paulo, where students met Audi Revolut F1 driver Gabriel Bortoleto, a meeting with UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy in India, and an off-track celebration in South Africa.

Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, said inspiring the next generation is central to the sport, and that Learning Sectors provides students with opportunities to explore their skills and potential. Chris Elmore MP, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office Minister, praised the initiative for bringing STEM education to life internationally. Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, highlighted the programme’s impact on tens of thousands of students and its role in developing essential skills for future careers in science, technology, and engineering.

With its global reach and hands-on experiences, Learning Sectors continues to use Formula 1 as a platform to inspire young people, foster innovation, and support the next generation of STEM talent.
