Fraser Valley Education Partners Unite To Boost Student Paths

    • University of the Fraser Valley signs collaboration agreement with six school districts in British Columbia to improve K-12 to post-secondary transitions.
    • Initiative focuses on a Collaborative K–16 Framework to align academic pathways, enhance equity, and support student success.
    • Move responds to workforce demand, with 77% of future jobs in the region expected to require higher education or specialized training.

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) has entered into a formal Memorandum of Collaboration with six regional school districts in British Columbia to strengthen student success and improve transitions from the K-12 education system to post-secondary education. The agreement was officially announced during the ConnectED 2026 Teaching and Learning Conference held in Abbotsford on April 29.

The collaboration includes school districts from Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, Mission, and Fraser-Cascade. The initiative is designed to create a more coordinated and connected public education system that supports students from early learning through graduation and beyond. Education leaders emphasized the importance of aligning academic pathways to ensure smoother transitions and better outcomes for learners.

The agreement comes in response to labor market projections indicating that approximately 77% of more than one million job openings in British Columbia over the next decade will require some level of higher education, specialized training, or equivalent experience. Officials say this highlights the need for a more integrated approach to education that prepares students for evolving workforce demands.

Over the past three years, UFV and regional districts have collaborated through education leadership summits and learning exchanges to identify barriers affecting students’ ability to access and complete post-secondary programs. These efforts led to the development of a Collaborative K-16 Framework, which focuses on improving educational pathways, enhancing equitable learning opportunities, and promoting culturally responsive and evidence-based teaching practices.

The partnership aims to provide consistent learning experiences, strengthen communication between institutions, and support students in achieving their academic and career goals. Education leaders stated that this coordinated framework will play a key role in building a more inclusive and effective public education system across the Fraser Valley.
