- Google collaborates with S Chand to integrate Google Lens into over 300 school textbooks across India.
- Students can now access video lessons, step-by-step solutions, and instant translations by scanning textbooks.
- Initiative aims to bridge learning gaps and support autonomous education for millions of smartphone-using students.
Google collaborates with S Chand, India's prominent education content provider to include Google Lens in school textbooks, transforming the way students learn and engage with academic content.
With the complexity of curriculum increasing and the growing dependency on autonomous learning, students are frequently unable to obtain quick, correct answers to their academic questions. Most do not have access to tutors or other external resources, so it is difficult to understand complicated ideas, complete complex equations, or overcome language barriers. This integration with Google Lens fills this gap directly by making textbooks interactive learning devices so that students are able to directly access explanations, translations, and problem-solving inputs.
India has more than 750 million smartphone users, which will reach one billion by 2025, as per the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) report. As smartphones become a part of everyday life, incorporating Google Lens into textbooks provides a more immersive, inclusive, and efficient learning process for students. With just a simple scan of their textbooks, students can discover a variety of interactive capabilities, such as:
- Simple access to explanations and interactive video lessons for topics like Mathematics, History, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, with access to related videos to be able to better understand difficult concepts.
- Step-by-step solutions to mathematics problems, such as difficult equations and concepts, to aid in explaining and making simpler the problem-solving by displaying the underlying methodology.
- Translation of text into more than 100 languages in seconds so that students can learn their study texts in a language of their convenience.
- Simple transfer of text from books to devices, enabling easier note-taking and revision.
This program has already been incorporated into more than 300 textbook titles, printing over 5 million copies. By introducing Google Lens functionality, S Chand is making sure that students nationwide have access to enhanced assistance, leading to greater comprehension and retention of important concepts.
Himanshu Gupta, Managing Director, S Chand Group, said of the initiative "S Chand has always been committed to revolutionizing education through innovation. This partnership with Google is a move towards making learning interactive and more accessible to students. With this powerful technology integrated into our textbooks, we are empowering students with digital tools that supplement conventional methods of learning and make their academic journey smoother".
Saurabh Mittal, CFO of S Chand Group, highlighted the impact Education is evolving, and so are the ways students seek knowledge. With Google Lens, we are ensuring that millions of learners have instant access to explanations, translations, and step-by-step solutions directly from their textbooks. We have already seen inspiring success stories like Ritika, a 10th-grade student from Uttar Pradesh, who struggled with algebra. With minimal resources and no tutor, she employed the use of Google Lens to photograph problems from her S Chand textbook and read step-by-step explanations. Within a couple of weeks, her confidence increased, and her mathematics scores greatly improved.
Likewise, Amit, a 9th standard student from Maharashtra, was confronted with language barriers when learning science. With Google Lens, he could quickly translate difficult English words into far more accessible Marathi, opening up learning for him and for tens of thousands of students. These anecdotes reaffirm our conviction that the proper tool and good educational content can overcome obstacles and empower students everywhere. This undertaking is a milestone in the development of education that provides students with tools that make learning easier, more innovative, and more efficient. As S Chand innovates further, this undertaking with Google is only one of many moves towards closing the gap between conventional learning and the digital future.
