Hanyang University Updates 2026 Admissions, Expands Engineering Intake

    • Hanyang University will admit 1,457 students through its 2026 regular admissions cycle, mainly via national entrance examinations
    • Engineering, automotive, electronics, and data science programs will see higher student intake to meet future industry skill demand
    • A new holistic student record review has been added alongside test scores to gradually diversify the admissions process

Hanyang University has announced its 2026 regular admissions plan, outlining key changes aimed at expanding technology education and gradually diversifying student selection criteria. The university will admit 1,457 students through domestic entrance exams, including 1,280 under the general quota and 177 from non-quota applicant groups.

The updated plan reflects student quota adjustments introduced by South Korea’s Ministry of Education in April 2025. As part of this shift, several engineering and future-skills programs will significantly increase intake. The Department of Convergence Electronics Engineering will admit 79 students, up from 63 last year. Future Automotive Engineering will expand to 29 seats from 8, while the Department of Data Science will grow to 30 seats, nearly four times last year’s intake.

For the first time, Hanyang will include a 10 percent holistic student record review in regular admissions, which were previously based entirely on test scores. The new component will apply across most majors and applicant groups, though select programs in sports, theater, and film will remain exempt. University officials said the change is designed to prepare for broader admissions reforms planned by 2028.

The university has also revised test score weightings for several departments and removed mandatory subject requirements, giving applicants greater flexibility in subject selection across academic tracks.

All students admitted through general regular admissions will receive a two-year scholarship covering 50 percent of tuition, subject to maintaining a minimum GPA. In addition, Hanyang will admit eight students to its Semiconductor Engineering program outside the general quota, offering extended tuition support, industry-linked internships, and global exchange opportunities.

Hanyang will also host personalized admissions counseling sessions later this month to help applicants better understand scoring criteria and program fit.
