HUTECH & University of Manitoba Discuss Research and Skills Training

    • New pathways for postgraduate study and research via joint programs and collaborative projects
    • Focus on biotechnology, plastics, and environmental skills linked to sustainability and innovation
    • Greater global exposure through Canada-ASEAN scholarships for study, research, and training in Canada

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) has taken a key step toward expanding international academic and research opportunities by meeting with the University of Manitoba (UoM), Canada. The discussion centered on building long-term collaboration in biotechnology and environmental science, with strong emphasis on skills development and career-ready research.

The University of Manitoba delegation was led by Dr. David Levin, Professor in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. HUTECH was represented by senior academic leaders, international relations officials, and doctoral researchers. The meeting highlighted shared interests in advanced education, applied research, and global talent development.

Dr. Levin introduced UoM’s Biosystems Engineering department, which has over a century of academic excellence and is the only program of its kind in Western Canada. He explained postgraduate study options and research funding support, noting that these opportunities can help HUTECH students and researchers gain international exposure and industry-relevant skills.

Research collaboration formed a major part of the discussion. Dr. Levin outlined his team’s work on polyethylene plastics and sustainability challenges. In response, HUTECH shared its latest findings on microplastic pollution. Both sides agreed that their overlapping expertise creates strong potential for joint research that can support green jobs and innovation-driven careers.

The meeting also highlighted the Canada-ASEAN SEED scholarship program. This initiative enables short-term study and research in Canada for faculty members, postgraduate students, and doctoral candidates, helping them strengthen professional skills and global academic networks.

By the end of the session, both universities agreed to promote SEED scholarships, expand joint research in biotechnology and environmental science, explore Master’s and PhD pathways at UoM, and develop faculty and student exchange programs. These steps aim to prepare learners with future-ready skills for global careers.
