Indian Institute of Technology Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus has officially announced admission guidelines for its first undergraduate programs, marking a major milestone in India’s global education expansion and offering international students access to world-class engineering education in the UAE.
In a landmark step for India’s global higher education ambitions, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has officially unveiled admission guidelines for the first undergraduate batch at its Abu Dhabi campus, signaling the beginning of a new era in international technical education collaboration between India and the United Arab Emirates.
The Abu Dhabi campus, established as IIT Delhi’s first international branch, is set to begin academic operations for undergraduate students during the 2024-25 academic year. The announcement marks a historic milestone not only for IIT Delhi but also for India’s broader effort to expand the global footprint of its prestigious educational institutions.
For its inaugural undergraduate intake, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi will offer two future-focused engineering programs B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and B.Tech in Energy Engineering. Each course will accommodate 30 students, taking the total intake capacity to 60 students for the first academic batch. Classes are expected to commence between August and September.
The launch of undergraduate admissions comes amid rising global demand for high-quality STEM education and reflects the growing educational partnership between India and the UAE. The initiative is expected to create new academic opportunities for Indian students residing abroad, Emirati students, and international learners seeking globally recognized technical education within the Middle East region.
Admissions to the programs will be conducted through two pathways the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) 2024 and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2024. The CAET has been specially designed for students based in the UAE and eligible international candidates, providing broader access to IIT education beyond India’s borders.
According to the announced eligibility guidelines, applicants must secure at least 75 percent aggregate marks in their Class 12 or equivalent examinations or rank within the top 20 percentile of their respective educational boards. Candidates must also meet age and academic attempt conditions aligned with the admission policy.
The CAET 2024 examination is scheduled for June 23 and will feature a three-hour assessment covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Education experts believe the examination could become an important new pathway for students in the Gulf region seeking entry into one of India’s most respected technology institutions.

The Abu Dhabi campus itself represents a strategic educational collaboration between major institutions and governments. The project was initiated following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, the Ministry of Education of India, and IIT Delhi during the visit of Narendra Modi to the UAE.
The establishment of IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi is being viewed as a major diplomatic and academic milestone that strengthens educational ties between the two nations while positioning the UAE as a growing global education and innovation hub. Analysts believe the initiative could encourage deeper research collaboration, technology innovation, student mobility, and talent development between India and the Middle East.
The introduction of programs in Computer Science and Energy Engineering also reflects the industries shaping the future global economy. While Computer Science remains central to artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and software innovation, Energy Engineering is expected to play a critical role in sustainability, renewable energy systems, and future infrastructure development.
