In a significant move set to strengthen international education cooperation, the Governments of Indonesia and Russia have officially signed an agreement on mutual recognition of education, qualifications, and academic degrees, marking a major milestone for students pursuing study in Russia and academic exchange between the two nations.
The agreement was signed on December 10, 2025, during an official visit by the Indonesian delegation to Russia. The document was jointly signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and Russia’s Minister of Education and Science, Valery Falkov. The Russian Embassy in Indonesia later confirmed the development, highlighting its importance in deepening Russia–Indonesia education relations.
According to Falkov, the agreement serves as a strong and structured foundation for the recognition of academic qualifications, making it easier for students who graduate from universities in either country to have their degrees formally accepted in their home nation. He emphasized that this step is particularly meaningful as the number of Indonesian students in Russia continues to grow steadily each year, reflecting rising interest in higher education abroad opportunities.

Falkov further noted that the Russian government is committed to ensuring that Indonesian students studying in Russian universities return home with strong career prospects and the ability to contribute meaningfully to Indonesia’s national development. This aligns with broader efforts to enhance global student mobility and create smoother transitions for graduates entering the workforce.
He also revealed that there are currently around 290 active cooperation agreements between universities in Russia and Indonesia, showcasing an already well-established academic partnership that continues to expand. These collaborations are expected to further enhance academic exchange programs, research opportunities, and cross-border learning initiatives.
With this latest agreement, both countries are reinforcing their commitment to making international degree recognition more seamless, transparent, and beneficial for students. The move is widely seen as a strategic step toward deepening educational ties while empowering students to pursue global learning pathways with greater confidence and clarity.
