Khalifa University, IEEJ Boost UAE-Japan Research &Skills Exchange

    • UAE and Japan deepen education and research collaboration.
    • Launch of student exchange program and joint research workshop.
    • Focus on technology, robotics, and power engineering skills development.

    Khalifa University of Science and Technology and Japan’s Institute of Energy Economics (IEEJ) hosted the 2026 UAE-Japan Industry-Academia Collaboration Steering Board meeting in Abu Dhabi, strengthening ties in education, research, and innovation.

    The meeting, Co-chaired by Professor Samuel Mao from Khalifa University and Dr. Yukari Yamashita from IEEJ, brought together top researchers and industry leaders from both countries. The session focused on expanding joint research, promoting student mobility, and fostering skills in high-demand areas such as robotics, power engineering, and sustainable infrastructure.

    His Excellency Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, said the partnership aims to “drive high-impact research and build a collaborative ecosystem that translates innovation into real-world solution”.

    Japanese experts shared progress on robotics projects, power engineering collaborations, and the inverse dam project developed with Kyoto University. Khalifa University researchers highlighted achievements in autonomous systems and renewable energy. Discussions also emphasized increasing joint grant proposals, interdisciplinary research, and knowledge-sharing opportunities for students and professionals.

    The collaboration builds on the Japan-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) and reflects a shared commitment to developing talent, fostering innovation, and preparing students for future technology-driven careers.
