Synopsis
Leifras Co., Ltd. has secured contracts with 24 local governments and eight private schools in Japan to manage school club activities as the country shifts toward community-based extracurricular sports management.
Leifras Co., Ltd., a Japan-based sports and social business company focused on youth development and community engagement, has significantly expanded its school club management operations by securing outsourcing contracts with 24 local governments and eight private junior high schools for fiscal year 2026.
The development marks a major milestone for the company as Japan officially enters a new phase of education reform aimed at reducing teacher workloads and improving the quality of extracurricular sports instruction. Under updated national guidelines issued by Japan’s Ministry of Education, weekend school club activities are expected to gradually transition from schools to local communities and private operators beginning in fiscal year 2026.
The shift is creating what industry observers describe as a rapidly emerging market for specialized school activity management services. Leifras estimates the potential market size at nearly JPY500 billion, supported by approximately 9,800 junior high schools and more than 128,000 school club activities across the country.

For fiscal year 2026, Leifras secured five new local government contracts while successfully renewing 19 existing partnerships. The company also expanded its presence into major metropolitan regions, including Tokyo’s Ota Ward, Chiba City, and Kawasaki City, strengthening its position in densely populated urban markets.
The contracts span multiple regions across Japan, ranging from Hokkaido to Osaka, Fukuoka, and Oita, reflecting growing demand for professionally managed school sports and extracurricular programs.
Leifras stated that its competitive advantage lies in its nationwide operational network, extensive government partnerships, and large-scale coaching infrastructure. The company currently supports over 2,120 school clubs and works with 381 schools across Japan. It also operates in 46 prefectures with more than 1,000 full-time employees and over 3,500 part-time staff.
The company emphasized that safety and structured program management remain central to its operations. Since launching its school club support business in 2013, Leifras claims it has maintained a record of zero major accidents or severe injuries.
Beyond operational growth, the expansion reflects broader changes taking place within Japan’s education and youth development systems. Schools across the country are increasingly seeking external partners capable of delivering high-quality sports instruction while easing administrative and teaching burdens on educators.
Leifras believes the newly secured contracts will support long-term revenue growth while contributing to national efforts focused on youth development, sports participation, and education reform.
