Hindustan International School (HIS) held an Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign for making students aware of the ill effects of drug addiction. The session was conducted by Mr. Deepak Kaushik, Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zonal Unit. The session focused on sensitizing students towards the ill effects of substance abuse and the need to make healthy, informed choices in life.
With more than ten years of experience in India's anti-narcotics operations, encompassing significant sea-borne drug interceptions, Mr. Kaushik presented a firsthand perspective of developments on the ground. His presentation dwelt on the sensational increase in drug use among young people, its social and psychological impact, and legal regimes underpinning narcotics control in India.
In his speech, Mr. Kaushik stated, "Young people are the future of our nation. It is necessary that they are made aware of the risks of drug addiction at an early age so they can make the correct decisions and contribute towards a healthier, drug-free India".
The session kicked off with a welcome speech delivered by students, which put everyone in the right mood for a very interactive and informative session. Students were greatly influenced by Mr. Kaushik's first-hand experience of high-risk operations and appreciated his candid views and down-to-earth advice on being alert and assisting fellow students through awareness and sympathy. The Principal and Dean of Academics (HIS) awarded the Anti-Drug Ambassador Award to Mr. Kaushik in appreciation of his contribution. Subsequently, all participants signed an Anti-Drug Pledge, pledging to have a healthy and responsible life.
