Samsung SDS Launches ChatGPT Edu, Expands AI In Education

    • Samsung SDS brings ChatGPT Edu to South Korea, expanding partnership with OpenAI
    • Large-scale pilot launched with a national university, reaching 90,000 users to integrate AI in academics and research workflows
    • Focus on privacy and secure AI use in education, as adoption of generative AI tools accelerates across the Asia-Pacific region

Samsung SDS is making a big move in the education space, bringing ChatGPT Edu to South Korea and signaling how quickly AI in education is becoming mainstream. Announced on April 27, the company has secured the rights to distribute ChatGPT Edu, expanding its growing partnership with OpenAI and positioning itself at the center of the region’s digital learning transformation.

To kick things off, Samsung SDS has launched a large-scale pilot program with a major national university, reaching nearly 90,000 students, professors, and staff. The rollout is designed to showcase how generative AI tools can reshape everyday academic work from writing and coding to research, summaries, and even building custom chatbots tailored to coursework.

What makes ChatGPT Edu especially appealing for institutions is its focus on privacy. Unlike many AI platforms, it ensures that student and teacher interactions are not used for training data, addressing one of the biggest concerns around AI adoption in classrooms today. This balance between innovation and trust is likely to play a major role in how widely such tools are adopted.

The move builds on Samsung SDS’s earlier role as the first official reseller of ChatGPT Enterprise in Korea, where it has already gained traction across multiple industries. Now, with education in focus, the company is tapping into a rapidly expanding market. The Asia-Pacific generative AI market is expected to surge dramatically by the end of the decade, while the global AI education market continues its steady climb.

Beyond classrooms, this partnership also connects to larger ambitions, including OpenAI’s Stargate AI infrastructure plans, where Samsung companies could play a key role in supplying technology and supporting data center development. Altogether, it’s a clear sign that AI-powered education is no longer a future concept it’s already unfolding at scale.
