Singapore University Expands in China With Chongqing Academy

    • Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) launched the SUSS Success Academy in Chongqing and announced a new satellite office in Shenyang to expand its presence in China.
    • The Academy and partnerships with local institutions will offer interdisciplinary courses, student exchanges, industry immersions, and joint research programs to develop future-ready talent.
    • This expansion builds on SUSS’ broader Asia strategy, connecting Singaporean students with regional universities and industry for practice-oriented, globally connected learning.

The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) has expanded its footprint in China with the launch of the SUSS Success Academy in Chongqing and the announcement of a new satellite office in Shenyang. The launch ceremony, held at the CCI Gallery, brought together nearly 70 guests from China and Singapore, including representatives from universities, industry partners, and community organisations. The event was graced by Mavis Tan, Vice-Consul (Political) of the Singapore Consulate-General in Chengdu, and Li Xunfu, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, highlighting the growing collaboration between the two countries in education and talent development.

The Success Academy in Chongqing builds on SUSS’ existing academies in Beijing and Shenzhen and is part of the university’s broader strategy to enhance engagement across Western and Northeast China. Anchored in SUSS’ mission of lifelong learning and social impact, the Academy is designed to connect academic and industry partners from Singapore and China, creating opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration and practice-oriented learning. The initiative aims to develop future-ready talent capable of making meaningful contributions to both society and the economy.

Raffles Young Academy (RYA) Pte Ltd, an organisation dedicated to nurturing talent through industry-oriented learning and international exposure, will support the Academy’s initiatives with its local expertise and extensive networks. Through this collaboration, students from SUSS and other Singaporean pre-tertiary and tertiary institutions will have opportunities to co-learn and co-innovate with peers in China.

The Academy will offer interdisciplinary global learning courses, impact startup and venture builder programmes, student exchanges, and industry-based immersions, giving students both regional exposure and hands-on experience in workplace learning. In addition, SUSS will collaborate with universities and organisations in China to jointly design and deliver industry-relevant courses and programmes for students and professionals, ensuring that education is closely aligned with real-world needs.

To extend its presence into Northeast China, SUSS will open a satellite office in Shenyang on 11 March 2026. This office will support initiatives in Liaoning Province and surrounding areas, including Dalian. As part of the expansion, SUSS will sign three Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with local institutions, including Shenyang University of Chemical Technology for a collaborative Master’s programme in Social Work, and the North-East Institute of Population and Social Development for joint research and professional development programmes. These partnerships aim to foster cross-border knowledge exchange, build talent pipelines, and develop solutions for social challenges such as active ageing and community development.

Professor Tan Tai Yong, President of SUSS, emphasized the importance of China as a strategic partner, noting that the launch of the Success Academy in Chongqing will strengthen collaboration with universities, industry, and community partners, while delivering applied, practice-oriented education. Samuel Ng, Executive Chairman of RYA, highlighted Chongqing’s strategic position as a gateway to Western China and a hub for industry, describing the Academy as a long-term commitment to building enduring bridges between academia, industry, and students.

The Chongqing launch forms part of SUSS’ broader expansion across Asia. Since 2023, the university has established Success Academies in Beijing, Shenzhen, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, and Mumbai, reinforcing its mission to create globally connected, practice-oriented learning environments that equip students with the skills to navigate an increasingly complex world.
