TESDA Expands Scholarships and Enterprise-Based Skills Training

    • TESDA offers large-scale, industry-relevant programs to quickly prepare students for the workforce.
    • Collaborations with John Hay Hotels, Baguio Country Club, and Moog Controls give students real-world experience in hospitality and manufacturing.
    • TESDA equips learners with practical, market-ready skills to meet industry demand and foster entrepreneurship.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is set to expand its scholarship programs and enterprise-based education and training initiatives in 2026. With a larger budget allocation, TESDA plans to open 650,000 to 700,000 technical-vocational education and training (TVET) scholarship slots this year.

TESDA Director General Jose Francisco Benitez led the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with John Hay Management Corporation, Baguio Country Club, and Moog Controls Corporation to strengthen collaboration for enterprise-based learning. These partnerships aim to give learners practical, industry-relevant skills in tourism, hospitality, manufacturing, and precision engineering.

In tourism and hospitality, students will gain exposure through partnerships with John Hay Hotels and the Baguio Country Club, the country’s only 5-star mountain resort. In manufacturing, Moog Controls will provide hands-on experience in advanced systems, quality assurance, and precision engineering.

Benitez emphasized that TESDA’s shorter, flexible courses can quickly respond to employment needs, helping to address the job-skills mismatch in local and global industries. “Skills are the new currency of the workforce”, he said, highlighting that practical, industry-verified skills often outweigh formal degrees in today’s job market.

TESDA is also encouraging regional institutions like the Cordillera State Institute for Technical Education (CSITE) to diversify and expand skills training programs, equipping students with marketable skills to succeed as employees or entrepreneurs.

The expanded scholarships and enterprise-based training programs aim to strengthen the country’s workforce, bridge skill gaps, and prepare learners for both local and international employment opportunities.
