University of Design & Innovation Launches Creator-Focused Campus

    • Haryana establishes the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) in Gurugram, building on the legacy of IIAD to offer creator-focused higher education.
    • UDIT integrates design, technology, and management across three interdisciplinary schools, emphasizing studio-based, practice-led learning.
    • The university aims to prepare students for real-world impact through hands-on projects, industry engagement, and interdisciplinary skill development.

The University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT) has officially been established in Gurugram through an Act of the Haryana State Legislature, marking a significant milestone in India’s higher education landscape. Conceived as a university for creators, UDIT integrates design, technology, and management within a single, practice-led framework, aiming to prepare students for meaningful, real-world impact.

Building on the foundation of the Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD), which since 2015 has pioneered studio-based design education in India, UDIT carries forward a legacy of creativity, hands-on learning, and strong industry engagement. The university’s philosophy emphasizes that learning is most effective when centered around making, experimenting, and collaborating an ethos that shapes its unique, creator-focused approach.

"We are not simply expanding an institution; we are reimagining what a creator’s education can look like. The most influential people of this century will be those who can navigate multiple disciplines, create with both mind and hands, and lead with purpose. Our goal is for graduates to leave with a body of work and a lifelong disposition to make things that matter", said Dr. Jitin Chadha, Pro-Chancellor of UDIT.

The university is structured across three interdisciplinary schools. The School of Design includes Fashion, Visual Communication, and Product & Interior Design. The School of Management focuses on Fashion & Luxury Business Management and Technology Business Management, while the School of Technology offers B.Tech and M.Tech programs in Computer Science, AI, and Design. This integrated academic approach encourages students to traverse disciplines, cultivating a broad, adaptive skill set.

At the heart of UDIT is the studio, where students learn through real challenges, experimentation, and critique. The curriculum blends theory with practical application through project-led modules, collaborative work, and well-equipped labs and studios, ensuring students are prepared not just for existing roles but to create what comes next. Faculty with deep academic and professional experience guide learners while remaining attuned to emerging industry trends.

As UDIT evolves, it aims to expand research opportunities, strengthen international partnerships, and deepen industry engagement, positioning itself as a forward-thinking institution shaping the future of higher education in India.
