Vietnam Launches Asia Green Hackathon For Student Innovators

    • Vietnam launches the Asian Hackathon for Green Future to promote sustainability-focused student innovation across Asia
    • Open to university students, the competition offers mentorship, training, and a USD 24,000 prize pool
    • The initiative highlights the growing role of youth-led, interdisciplinary solutions in tackling environmental challenges

A new regional initiative is set to inspire young innovators across Asia, as three Vingroup-affiliated organisations the 'For Green Future' Foundation, VinUniversity, and VinTechTalent have launched the Asian Hackathon for Green Future, a first-of-its-kind competition in Vietnam focused on sustainability and innovation. Open to undergraduate and master’s students from universities across Asia, the event offers a total prize pool of USD 24,000 and aims to empower students to tackle pressing environmental challenges through technology-driven ideas.

Registrations for the Asian Hackathon for Green Future opened on April 6, 2026, marking the beginning of a multi-stage journey that combines learning, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving. Participants will move through preliminary selection, an intensive online training phase, and a final in-person hackathon hosted at VinUniversity in Hanoi. The competition is designed not just as a contest, but as a learning experience that nurtures creativity, teamwork, and practical application of knowledge.

Students are encouraged to propose solutions that blend disciplines such as technology, environmental science, economics, and social sciences, reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of modern higher education. The focus areas include renewable energy, low-carbon mobility, urban air quality, and climate-resilient agriculture, all of which are critical to building a more sustainable future.

Beyond competing for prizes, participants will benefit from mentorship sessions with experts, gaining insights into sustainability innovation and emerging technologies. The top teams will have their travel and accommodation fully covered for the final round, where they will collaborate intensively and present their ideas to a distinguished panel of judges.

Organisers believe that the student innovation ecosystem plays a crucial role in shaping future solutions. By providing a platform for youth-led innovation and cross-border collaboration, the hackathon aims to transform student ideas into impactful, real-world applications. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on global education opportunities that prepare students not only academically, but also as changemakers ready to address global challenges.
