Vietnam's Galaxy Education Raises Nearly $10M to Expand AI-Powered ESL Learning Nationwide

    •   Galaxy Education raises nearly $10M led by East Ventures to scale AI-powered ESL programs in Vietnam.
    •   Achieves full profitability in Q1 2025, a rare feat among Southeast Asian edtech startups.
    •   Serves 8M+ learners across 34 countries through platforms like HOCMAI, ICAN, and FUNiX.

Galaxy Education (GE), an education technology firm in Vietnam, raised almost USD 10 million in funding from East Ventures and other investors in one of the biggest EdTech deals in Vietnam during turbulent market times.

The funding round follows after GE reached company-wide full profitability in Q1 2025, having already achieved positive EBITDA in its K-12 business segment since April 2024. This makes the company one of the profitable EdTech players in Southeast Asia amidst a time of widespread sectorwide headwinds.

The new capital will largely underwrite GE's national English as a Second Language (ESL) program, which complements the directive from the Vietnamese Political Bureau to enhance English skills throughout the nation.

The initiative addresses teacher shortages and learning outcomes gaps in both public schools and under-resourced communities. "GE is among the rare edtech startups in Southeast Asia to have reached profitability in just a short period," added Mr. Luong Cong Hieu, CEO of Galaxy Group. "Their financial discipline and quality-first approach set them apart."

At the center of GE's strategy is its own proprietary AI-driven education ICAN platform, wherein AI agents are utilized to deliver customized learning experiences for students while offering real-time adaptive assistance to human instructors. It allows the company to provide quality education at scale without sacrificing affordability.

"Vietnam's education market offers robust growth potential, driven by the adoption of digital technology, a rising middle class, and growing private sector involvement. We are convinced by Galaxy Education's vision and robust execution as a market leader in the sector, differentiating them from their peers and which has allowed them to reach profitability. With encouraging prospects underpinned by positive policy tailwinds and ongoing robust execution from the team, we are thrilled to back their journey and anticipate their future growth," said Roderick Purwana, East Ventures' Managing Partner.

    Portfolio of education brands

GE has grown through strategic acquisitions since its inception in 2020 with the acquisition of Vietnam's number one K-12 platform HOCMAI. In 2023, the company added FUNiX, Vietnam's first online university, to its portfolio, broadening its presence into workforce upskilling and lifelong learning.

    GE has three core brands:

•HOCMAI: Vietnam's number one K-12 online learning platform

•ICAN: Language and basic tech education for children

•FUNiX: Online university with a focus on vocational and digital skills

GE's vertically integrated model spans the full education value chain, from market research and curriculum development to tech platforms, teacher training, and classroom operations.

    Market position and scale

As of early 2025, GE reaches a cumulative total of more than 8 million students in Vietnam and in 34 other countries. The company's profitability under a difficult investment environment is a testament to the strength of its business model and a source of pride for being a rare success story among Southeast Asian EdTech players.
