Yayasan KRU has launched a new nationwide initiative called Anugerah Kreatif Aspirasi Reka 2026, or Akar 2026, to discover and nurture creative talent among children and young people across Malaysia. The program aims to encourage creativity, innovation, and environmental awareness from an early age while helping students build skills that can support future academic and career opportunities.
The first phase of the initiative will focus on preschool and primary school students through drawing and coloring competitions centered on environmental conservation themes. The project is being carried out in partnership with major government and education bodies, including National Higher Education Fund Corporation, the Ministry of Education Malaysia, the Community Development Department, and the National Unity and National Integration Department.
Norman Abdul Halim, President of Yayasan KRU’s Board of Trustees, said the initiative is designed to help young learners develop creative thinking while also building awareness around sustainability and global environmental challenges. He said the goal is not only to identify talent but also to shape a generation that is responsible, competitive, and ready to contribute to future industries.

Yayasan KRU plans to expand the program to secondary schools and higher education institutions over the next two years as part of its long-term vision to create a stronger creative talent ecosystem. A key part of Akar 2026 will be a nationwide roadshow covering 40 schools during June and July. Winners will receive prizes through deposits into the National Education Savings Scheme, along with trophies and certificates.
The initiative reflects Malaysia’s growing focus on skill-building through creative education and early exposure to innovation-driven learning opportunities.
