UST Boosts Recruitment Of Vietnamese Talent For R&D Korea

    • University of Science and Technology signed a partnership with University of Science and Technology of Hanoi along with KRIBB, KIMM, and KFRI to strengthen Korea–Vietnam R&D collaboration
    • The initiative introduces special admissions, internships, and exchange programs to bring Vietnamese STEM students into advanced Korean research institutes
    • The long-term goal is to build a cross-border innovation ecosystem focused on bioscience, engineering, and next-generation technology research

A new wave of global talent mobility is reshaping Asia’s higher education landscape as University of Science and Technology (UST) deepens its push to attract top-tier Vietnamese STEM students into advanced research pathways in Korea. On April 14, UST formalized a strategic partnership with the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) along with key national research institute schools including KRIBB, KIMM, and KFRI, marking a significant step toward strengthening Korea-Vietnam R&D collaboration.

The agreement is designed to identify and recruit outstanding science and engineering students from Vietnam into competitive graduate programs hosted at Korea’s leading national research institutes, where they will be trained as next-generation research innovators.

Under the framework of the agreement, participating institutions will roll out special admissions tracks for USTH students, alongside global internship opportunities, faculty exchanges, and joint academic symposiums designed to foster a seamless research ecosystem. The initiative also emphasizes building a long-term alumni network that will serve as a bridge between Korean and Vietnamese scientific communities.

Following the signing ceremony, participants toured advanced laboratories at KRIBB, highlighting practical collaboration in bioscience and biotechnology research environments. By integrating education with hands-on research exposure, the program aims to produce globally competitive scholars who can contribute to both countries’ innovation agendas.

Building on previous agreements signed last November with Vietnamese universities such as VNU University of Science and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, UST is expanding its international education partnerships to widen its talent pipeline across emerging markets. The long-term vision is to continuously recruit exceptional students from Vietnam and other promising countries, integrating them into a Korea-centered innovation network that drives next-generation technologies.

As President Da-eim Kang emphasized, the initiative aims to transform students into world-class researchers while sustaining cross-border collaboration through shared academic and industrial research goals.
