The Ministry of Education has announced the launch of the 2026 Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Outstanding Scholarship, a major initiative aimed at supporting low-income students in South Korea to pursue academic excellence from elementary school through university. In collaboration with the Korea Student Aid Foundation, the program will select 3,000 recipients this year, providing both financial assistance and comprehensive support to help students reach their full potential.

The scholarship targets outstanding students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those receiving basic livelihood security, children from single-parent households, and students from near-poor families. Eligible applicants, spanning fifth grade in elementary school to third grade in high school, must be recommended by their schools and submit applications via the Korea Student Aid Foundation website by April 30.

Recipients will benefit from a monthly academic encouragement stipend ranging from 150,000 won for elementary students, 250,000 won for middle school students, 350,000 won for high school students, and up to 450,000 won for university students. Selection will be conducted in July through document screening and an in-depth evaluation process, ensuring that support reaches those with strong academic potential and dedication despite challenging circumstances.

Beyond financial aid, the program emphasizes holistic student development. Scholarship recipients will receive mentoring, career consulting, and psychological support, helping them build both academic and life skills. These programs are designed to foster motivation, resilience, and career competencies, enabling students not only to succeed academically but also to envision and pursue their future dreams.

Choi Eunok, Vice Minister of Education, highlighted the program’s transformative potential, stating that the Lottery Fund Dream Ladder Outstanding Scholarship serves as a stepping stone for students striving to achieve their ambitions despite difficult circumstances. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive education in South Korea, ensuring that talented students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to excel and contribute meaningfully to society.

With this scholarship, the Ministry of Education aims to empower young learners, reduce educational inequality, and strengthen the pipeline of skilled, motivated students who can pursue higher education and career success across the country.
