Synopsis
AVIXA has opened applications for the Michael Vergauwen Scholarship, aimed at supporting students and professionals in the audiovisual industry. The program encourages skill development, education, and career growth in pro AV, offering financial assistance to eligible applicants pursuing industry-related studies.
The AVIXA Foundation has officially opened applications for the Michael Vergauwen Scholarship, continuing its mission to expand access to education and career pathways in the professional AV industry and the broader integrated experience sector. The scholarship cycle will remain open until June 30, 2026, giving students around the world an opportunity to apply for financial support aimed at strengthening the next generation of audiovisual professionals.
This year’s program will award ten individual scholarships, each valued at US$2,500, to students pursuing vocational training, undergraduate studies, or graduate-level education connected to audiovisual technology, media systems, and creative technology fields. The initiative is designed to reduce financial barriers for learners who are preparing to enter an industry that is rapidly evolving with advancements in digital communication, immersive experiences, live event production, and system integration technologies.
The scholarship honors the legacy of Michael Vergauwen, a respected figure in the global AV community who previously served as Chief Operating Officer of FORTÉ and as a long-standing board member of AVIXA. His contributions to the industry helped shape modern standards in professional audiovisual systems and workforce development. The scholarship established in his name reflects a continued commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging students to pursue careers in a field that blends creativity, engineering, and technology-driven storytelling.
According to the AVIXA Foundation, applicants must be at least 16 years old and demonstrate a clear interest in the AV sector. This interest can be shown through academic coursework, hands-on training, internships, apprenticeships, or extracurricular involvement in related areas such as media production, live events, broadcast systems, or digital communication technologies. However, full-time employees already working in the AV industry and previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply, ensuring that the opportunity is directed toward emerging talent who are still in the early stages of their professional journey.

The foundation emphasized that part-time workers, interns, and apprentices remain eligible, acknowledging that many students gain early exposure to the industry while continuing their education. This inclusive approach reflects the organization’s understanding that modern career pathways in audiovisual integration are often built through a combination of academic study and practical experience rather than traditional classroom-only learning.
Leadership at the AVIXA Foundation highlighted the broader purpose of the scholarship program, explaining that it is part of a long-term effort to build a sustainable talent pipeline for the global AV workforce. Sarah Joyce, executive director of the AVIXA Foundation and chief global officer at AVIXA, noted that the foundation’s mission is to make career pathways in the industry more accessible and viable. She emphasized that financial support through scholarships like this one helps students gain essential skills, training, and education needed to build long-lasting careers in a sector that continues to grow in both complexity and global demand.
Over the years, the foundation’s scholarship initiatives have provided more than US$800,000 in funding, benefiting nearly 500 students and emerging professionals worldwide. These programs are designed not only to offer financial assistance but also to encourage academic excellence, professional development, and innovation within the professional audiovisual industry. Each application is carefully evaluated by a panel of industry experts and volunteers who assess candidates based on academic performance, achievements, and the opportunities available to them in their educational and professional environments.
As the AV industry continues to expand across sectors such as corporate communications, entertainment, education, and immersive digital experiences, initiatives like the Michael Vergauwen Scholarship play an important role in ensuring that skilled professionals are prepared to meet future technological and creative demands.
