Bournemouth & Fairview Explore Creative Education in Malaysia

    • MOU for exploratory partnership in arts and creative education to explore long-term collaboration
    • Focus on local relevance, skills development, and impact for creative industry careers
    • Emphasis on quality, alignment, and international collaboration to ensure high standards and meaningful engagement

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) in the UK and University College Fairview (UCF) in Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore potential long-term collaboration in creative and arts education. The agreement provides a framework for dialogue and inquiry rather than committing to specific programs.

AUB, known for its practice-based courses in art, design, media, performance, and architecture, brings global industry links and creative expertise. UCF offers a platform for international collaboration that aligns with regional relevance and standards. The partnership aims to integrate AUB’s creative excellence with Malaysia’s educational strengths, focusing on skills development and preparing students for creative careers.

Lisa Mann, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of AUB, said the partnership is exploratory, emphasizing understanding the Malaysian context, identifying genuine alignment, and ensuring quality and institutional integrity. She added that any future initiatives will be adapted to local conditions rather than exporting a fixed model.

Dr. Vincent Chian, Provost of UCF, highlighted Malaysia’s strategic position as a regional hub, noting that the MOU marks the start of a long-term dialogue rather than immediate deliverables. Both institutions stressed that trust-building, academic standards, and mutual understanding will guide future steps.

The agreement reflects a growing trend in international higher education to focus on meaningful, context-driven partnerships that enhance skill development, job readiness, and sustainable impact. By exploring collaboration in creative education, Malaysia positions itself as a credible platform for developing talent in the arts across Asia.
