A new chapter in global teacher education is unfolding as nine senior pre-service educators from Bukidnon State University (BukSU) College of Education step into an international classroom experience in Indonesia, marking a bold push toward strengthening Southeast Asian academic collaboration and producing globally competitive teaching professionals.
Beginning April 12, 2026, the student group embarked on a four-week immersion program at Universiti Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP), where they are being trained not just as future educators but as globally aware practitioners equipped for diverse learning environments. The initiative places them directly inside the Indonesian education system, where they engage in structured classroom observation, assist in lesson delivery, and participate in academic exchanges with local faculty and students. This hands-on exposure is designed to bridge theory and practice while shaping them into adaptable international teaching professionals.

Beyond academics, the immersion highlights cultural exchange as a key pillar of modern education. The Filipino student teachers will act as cultural ambassadors, sharing traditional cuisine during the university’s International Cuisine Day, creating meaningful connections that go beyond textbooks and lesson plans. This blend of education and cultural diplomacy reflects the growing importance of cross-cultural learning experiences in teacher preparation programs worldwide.
Supervising the group is Jesse James G. Gellor, a faculty visiting professor from BukSU College of Education, who is overseeing integration into local schools and ensuring alignment with international teaching standards. He is also expected to contribute academically through lectures, research sharing, and workshops for both UMP faculty and students, further strengthening institutional knowledge exchange.
According to BukSU’s Alumni Relations Unit, the program reinforces academic ties between Bukidnon State University and UMP Indonesia, positioning BukSU faculty and students as emerging thought leaders in regional education. This collaboration reflects a broader trend in teacher training programs in Asia, where immersive global exposure is becoming essential in preparing educators for an interconnected world.
