DepEd Camiguin Enhances Classroom Oversight via Project DAGPAK

    • DepEd Camiguin launched Project DAGPAK (Delivering Active Guidance in Pedagogical Advancement and Knowledge) to enhance classroom supervision and improve teaching quality.
    • The project mandates regular classroom observations, coaching, and mentoring, with each EPS conducting at least 12 observations monthly to address learning gaps.
    • Anchored on RA 9155 and DepEd Order 16, s. 2012, DAGPAK promotes a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on reflective teaching, data-driven supervision, and sustained professional development for educators.

The DepEd Camiguin further enhanced its classroom supervision through Project DAGPAK (Delivering Active Guidance in Pedagogical Advancement and Knowledge) for quality teaching that will ensure better learner outcomes.

"The project focuses on intensifying instructional supervision as a key strategy to address learning gaps and recover learning losses among students in the province", said Schools Division Superintendent Lorebina Carrasco, adding that the division aims to make classroom instruction the top priority of all schools.

Project DAGPAK calls for regular classroom observations by school heads and the EPS as a support mechanism for teachers in instructional delivery. Each EPS is expected to complete at least 12 classroom observations per month, with technical assistance, coaching, and mentoring based on identified needs. Supervisors use structured observation tools and feedback forms to ensure consistency and enhance teaching strategies.

"The program also allows the practice of reflection among teachers for them to assess their performance and realize their areas of professional growth. Effective supervision is not about fault-finding, but guiding teachers to be at their best in the classroom", Carrasco said.

DAGPAK also includes professional development sessions such as workshops and peer mentoring aimed at strengthening teachers' instructional skills. Supervision is informed and guided by data from student performance and formative assessments to tailor interventions that address learning needs.

Teachers are instructed to use the remaining days of the school year for instructional activities, remediation, and enhancement in reading, numeracy, and scientific literacy, said Carrasco. Non-instructional school activities are discouraged to ensure uninterrupted learning time for students.

"Challenges such as time constraints, resource limitations, and varied teacher readiness have been identified but are being addressed through collaboration and strong leadership. Despite these challenges, classroom observations have shown noticeable improvements in lesson delivery and learner engagement", she added.

The division added that sustained supervision and coaching will help teachers adopt better strategies aligned with DepEd's goals for quality basic education. Carrasco said Project DAGPAK goes beyond compliance to building a culture of continuous improvement among teachers and school leaders.

"With its systematic approach to supervision and support, Project DAGPAK positions DepEd Camiguin as a model for strengthening instructional practices at the grassroots level", she said. Implementation of Project DAGPAK is anchored on the provisions of RA 9155 or the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001, and DepEd Order 16, s. 2012, which call for efficient school-based management and instructional supervision to guarantee access to quality, equitable, and relevant basic education.
