Indigo Education Group, a Ministry of Education (MOE)-registered tuition provider, has expanded its Bukit Timah centre to 13 fully equipped classrooms, effective 17 August 2026. The move follows a sharp 65 per cent year-on-year rise in enrolment and reflects broader growth in private tuition demand across Singapore.
Enrolment at the Bukit Timah centre climbed from 377 students in 2025 to 622 students in 2026. The increase prompted the addition of new classrooms and has brought the centre’s capacity close to that of Indigo’s flagship Balmoral Plaza location. Established in 2011, Indigo now operates six centres across Singapore. Management said the expansion allows the group to accommodate rising applications without lowering class support standards or turning students away.
The growth at Bukit Timah mirrors a national trend. According to the Singapore Department of Statistics’ Household Expenditure Survey 2023, released in November 2024, families spent S$1.8 billion on private tuition in 2023. That figure rose from S$1.4 billion in 2018 and S$1.1 billion in 2013. Average monthly household spending on tuition reached S$104.80. Households in the top 20 per cent income bracket spent S$162.60 per month more than four times the S$36.30 spent by those in the bottom 20 per cent.
Location played a key role in the decision to expand. Bukit Timah sits in a dense cluster of Integrated Programme (IP) schools and Junior Colleges, including Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), National Junior College (NJC), Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH) and Methodist Girls’ School (MGS). Indigo noted that the district’s demographic profile and proximity to these institutions have sustained strong demand for its programmes, particularly IP Mathematics and JC General Paper (GP) classes.

These subjects are delivered under the group’s Indigo Pedagogy™ methodology by faculty deans and specialist tutors. Because IP, Secondary Express (G3) and JC syllabi differ significantly across schools, the extra classrooms enable a wider range of targeted classes and more flexible time slots. Students with demanding academic schedules can now find sessions that better match both their school curriculum and personal availability.
Indigo described the Bukit Timah expansion as part of a systematic approach to growing capacity in Singapore’s key educational precincts. The group said it will continue aligning classroom numbers at its six centres with the composition of surrounding school clusters. This strategy aims to ensure students retain access to programmes tailored to their specific school syllabi and academic levels.
The tuition sector in Singapore has long been a significant part of the education landscape. Parents often seek supplementary support to help children navigate competitive pathways, especially in mathematics, sciences and language-based subjects such as General Paper. Providers that specialise in school-specific curricula and employ experienced specialist tutors have seen particularly strong demand in areas with high concentrations of top schools.
By increasing physical capacity while maintaining teaching standards, Indigo positions itself to serve a larger share of this market. The group offers programmes covering Primary, Secondary Express (G3), Secondary Integrated Programme (IP) and Junior College levels in subjects that include English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics and General Paper.
Company representatives emphasised that the expansion was driven purely by enrolment growth and the need to preserve quality. Rather than stretching existing classrooms or reducing personalised support, management chose to add space so that class sizes and instructional standards could remain consistent.
The development also highlights how private education providers are responding to measurable shifts in household spending and parental priorities. With national tuition expenditure continuing its upward trajectory over the past decade, centres located near major school clusters are under particular pressure to scale operations.
Indigo Education Group’s decision to enlarge the Bukit Timah centre demonstrates a capacity-focused response to both local and nationwide demand. Students in the district now have greater access to specialised IP Mathematics and JC General Paper classes, while the broader network of six centres continues to serve families across Singapore.
As the new classrooms come into use, the group expects to accommodate a larger number of learners without compromising the specialised teaching approach that has underpinned its growth since 2011.
