JKSA Urges MEA to Postpone Key Medical Exams in Iran

    • The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) urged India’s Ministry of External Affairs to safeguard the academic progress of Indian medical students in Iran amid embassy advisories.
    • Critical exams, including semester tests and nationally supervised medical assessments on March 5, 2026, could be disrupted if students return abruptly, risking delays in their medical education and career progression.
    • JKSA requested structured guidance, coordination with Iranian authorities, and possible exam flexibility to ensure students’ safety without compromising their academic milestones.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take urgent action to safeguard the academic progress of Indian medical students in Iran following a recent advisory from the Embassy of India in Tehran. With semester exams underway at several universities and two nationally supervised medical examinations the Uloompaya (Comprehensive Basic Science Examination) and the Pre-Internship Examination scheduled for March 5, 2026, students face critical milestones in their medical education. These exams, conducted under Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, are mandatory steps in the journey toward becoming a physician.

The JKSA highlighted that many students have been informed by their universities that postponement of these exams is unlikely, meaning that an abrupt return to India could seriously disrupt their academic year, delay professional progression, and impact long-term career plans. This uncertainty has created widespread anxiety among students and concern among families in India, underscoring the need for clear guidance from authorities.

In its appeal, the JKSA requested that the MEA provide structured instructions specifically for students with imminent examinations, helping them make informed decisions in line with official advisories. The Association also urged the Ministry to coordinate with Iranian universities and authorities to explore options for academic flexibility, exam postponements, or alternative arrangements for students who may need to return to India immediately.

Emphasizing the sensitivity of the situation, the JKSA stressed that timely and coordinated communication is essential to prevent confusion and panic among students. The Association has pledged full cooperation with the Ministry and the Indian Embassy in Tehran to ensure verified information reaches students and to facilitate support for those affected.

Concluding its appeal, the JKSA highlighted that the safety and academic future of Indian students abroad must be prioritized, expressing hope for swift intervention so that no student is forced to choose between personal security and continuing their medical studies. This move reflects a broader concern for protecting the integrity of students’ education while addressing international safety challenges.
