KOSME Introduces Korea Business Culture Course At JNU For Student Employment In Korean Firms

    • KOSME, in collaboration with JNU, launched a six-week program 'Unlocking Potential: From Learning to Performance' to train Indian students in Korean work ethics and corporate culture.
    • The hybrid, action-based learning course covers workplace manners, communication, AI-powered tools, and problem-solving to boost employability with Korean firms.
    • Graduates will receive a joint KOSME–JNU certificate, strengthening India-Korea cooperation in education, skills, and workforce development.

The Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) has initiated a new education initiative that helps provide Indian students with hands-on skills of Korean work ethics and corporate culture to enable them to gain employability with Korean firms. The program, which is named 'Unlocking Potential: From Learning to Performance', is sponsored in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and officially commenced with its inaugural lecture on September 4, 2025, at the Korea Corner of the Centre for Korean Studies. It is a six-week course-format program aimed at filling the learning-performance gap.

Announcing the initiative, KOSME Director Lee Jae Kyeong explained that many Indian employees working in Korean firms often face challenges because of cultural differences, leading in some cases to workplace misunderstandings or premature resignations. To address this, KOSME began developing a program on Korean business culture last year, initially implementing it among Indian employees at Korean companies in New Delhi’s GBC. The encouraging response led KOSME to extend the program to Indian universities with JNU's Korean language department as the starting point.

Emphasizing the worth of the program, Lee underscored that although Korean firms provide big opportunities, clarity on cultural factors like hierarchical systems, punctuality, and responsibility is crucial for developing long-term careers. The objective of this partnership, he added, is to develop a skilled workforce capable of thriving in Korea's fast-changing corporate world.

On the opening session, Prof. Kaushal Kumar, Director of JNU's Korean Language Department, urged students to learn the working culture of Korean companies, with an emphasis on becoming responsible, task-oriented, and punctual. His comments underlined the necessity for students to go beyond language acquisition and accept the overall values and ethics of Korean workplaces.

The course will be lectured by Kang Seung Jung, an educator from the edu-tech firm I-Kets, and will be in a hybrid format with both theoretical lessons and practical implementations. As per Kang, the course surpasses traditional classroom instruction in taking up an 'Action-Based Learning' format. Students will be involved in actual projects, role-plays, and simulation presentations and learn how to utilize contemporary AI tools like ChatGPT and Canva in increasing digital capability. Not only is the transfer of knowledge targeted, but also the autonomous ability of students to solve problems and provide measurable outputs.

The program is taught in a wide range of topics pertinent to contemporary business, such as Korean work-place manners, social media marketing tactics, professional business English, communication and presentation skills, document automation powered by artificial intelligence, and problem-solving using hands-on case studies. Through a complete combination of cultural orientation, technical competencies, and online training, the program attempts to equip learners with the abilities to face the challenges and reap the rewards of working in multinational corporate settings.

On successful completion, participants will be awarded a joint Certificate of Completion from KOSME and JNU, a qualification that should enhance their competitiveness in getting hired by Korean firms. The program is an expression of increased efforts to match India's talent base with Korea's increasing business outreach in the country and throughout the region.
