The Sabah State Government has made plans to offer free education to students at two state-owned higher learning institutions, University College Yayasan Sabah (UCSF) and Kolej Teknologi Yayasan Sabah (KTYS), reaffirming its direction towards greater access to education. Furthermore, the government will unveil a loan subsidy policy covering PTPTN and Yayasan Sabah loans with a view to lightening the financial load on the students and lowering their levels of debt, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced.
Speaking in the Sabah Undergraduates Convention at KDCA Hall, Hajiji pointed out that the programme is to benefit more than 100,000 borrowers. He was optimistic that the policy is pragmatic and could be rolled out based on the financial situation of the state in the future. He stressed that the action proves that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government is dedicated to ensuring that more children of Sabah are provided with educational aid while protecting access to higher education.
Hajiji emphasized that the state government is keenly interested in education and human capital development, considering the younger generation as central to the future of the state. He highlighted that since becoming the chief minister, his government has made it a point to prioritize projects focusing on enhancing education and cultivating quality talent in Sabah. This has been incorporated into the SMJ Development Blueprint, a people-centric and all-encompassing plan that has already brought considerable progress in the state's overall development.

The Chief Minister's statement underscored the state government's larger vision of creating a generation that has the knowledge and capabilities to propel Sabah's social and economic development. Through free tuition and softening student debt by subsidizing loans, the state aims to eliminate financial hurdles that can stop youngsters from having higher education.
Hajiji’s address reinforced the administration’s view that education is a cornerstone of human capital development, vital for securing the state’s long-term prosperity. The combination of financial support measures and strategic development plans reflects the GRS Government’s holistic approach to nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and preparing the youth to contribute effectively to Sabah’s progress. The program is to build stronger opportunities for thousands of students and provide them with the resources and assistance required to excel academically while easing the money burdens typically linked with tertiary education.
