Mapua-ASU Alliance Brings US Innovation to Every Mindanao Classroom

    • AI-enabled dual-degree pathways and accelerated master's programs
    • Global faculty exchanges and research collaboration for Mindanao students
    • Seven-pillar expansion across sustainability, microcredentials, internationalization

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) hailed the expanded academic partnership between Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM) and Arizona State University (ASU), calling it a 'structural transformation' that brings world-class education to local students without requiring overseas travel.

The comprehensive collaboration, sealed at Dusit Thani Davao Residence, embeds AI-enabled learning, dual-degree pathways, accelerated master's programs, and global research opportunities directly into Mindanao's academic ecosystem. CHED Chairwoman Shirley Agrupis praised the partnership as true internationalization that strengthens institutions rather than just facilitating student exchanges.

"This transforms systems and empowers generations", Agrupis said, noting the initiative supports CHED's Achieve Agenda by making global education accessible to all Filipino students. The partnership aligns with Davao Regional Development Plan goals through measurable outcomes like curriculum enhancement, research capabilities, and globally competitive graduates.

Mapúa Education Group President Dodjie Maestrecampo announced group-wide expansion across seven pillars: sustainability leadership, AI education, online learning, research collaboration, microcredentials, internationalization, and new programs. The partnership, initially launched in business and health sciences (2022-2025), now scales across all Mapúa schools with MCM as Mindanao's global education hub.

Engr. Alejandro Palayao Jr., Mapúa MCM executive vice president, emphasized local access to international content, faculty exchanges, and certifications while addressing regional workforce needs. Paul Tan from Cintana Education, ASU's global platform, highlighted co-creation of globally relevant, locally grounded models connecting 34 universities worldwide.
