SARAWAK will establish three new international second-level schools under the Yayasan Sarawak, the education subsidiary within the State Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development.
Three new YSSIS International Secondary Schools (YISSIS) will be established within two years, the minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah disclosed.
"A new YSISS school is currently being constructed in Sibu and is expected to be completed this year, while two others are also being planned for Miri and Bintulu."
"Their construction will be completed by 2027. We currently have two YSISS in Kuching and Petra Jaya."
"These international schools churn out quality students in science and technology subjects.".
"That's why we are constructing more across the state," he said in his speech at an education function in Kuching.
Sarawak is thinking big about education.
On Feb 25, it was revealed that the state government has given the green light for plans to construct it's first Islamic International School close to Kuching.
Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg had previously stated a state allocation of RM 95 million has been sanctioned for the development.
"This will be the first Sarawak Islamic International School and will provide a mix of subjects based on the Quran along with modern sciences subjects."
"It will provide boarding facilities for the students as well."
"We want to educate our students not only on subjects related to Islam but also on modern sciences.".
"Our goal is to have well-educated Muslim youths well-versed in their religion and also scientific knowledge of this age," he added during an Islamic seminar held at Samarahan district.
Johari revealed state cabinet ministers from all faiths had shown their support for the project.
State authorities are currently drafting what should be included as subjects at the Sarawak Islamic International School, he further added.
