Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara officiated and opened the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Center in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
The first ALS Community Learning Center in Mindanao, this two-storey facility with roof deck located within the Central Elementary School in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte was built in 2024 via DepEd financing of PHP16.5 million. It will be an essential source of learning for ALS students and the community at large in Agusan del Norte.
By May 28, the center has 12 laptops, a 42-inch TV, a printer, and extensive ALS learning materials and tools. "I bring a message of hope from our President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. He is very genuine in his aspiration to have an educational system that is inclusive, comprehensive, and of very good quality", Angara stated.
He likewise appreciated the commitment of the DepEd in the Caraga Region, headed by Regional Director Maria Ines Asuncion, in catering to the learners in all schools in the region. Angara previously went to the Datu Saldong Domino Elementary School in Barangay Tagpange, Buenavista, one of the last-mile schools in the region.
With Department of Information and Communications Technology officials, Angara led the installation of connectivity and powering up of the school. Agusan del Norte Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante and sole district Rep. Dale Corvera joined Angara on both school activities.
