Thai Airways International Public Company Limited and Chulalongkorn University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that is meant to enhance mutual cooperation in education, innovation, and sustainable development. The signing of the agreement took place, in Room 111 of the Maha Chulalongkorn Building and is a mutual agreement to create long-term value for both parties and society as a whole.

The MoU was signed formally by Professor Dr. Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Mr. Chai Eamsiri, CEO of Thai Airways International.Their collective presence at the signing demonstrated the strategic intent of the partnership: advancing meaningful outcomes through collaboration in multiple spheres, including research, human capital development, and innovation.

At the center of the agreement is a shared vision to co-create opportunities for growth through alignment of academic excellence and industry requirements. The partnership will enable a range of initiatives related to education, training, research, and innovation to address the dynamic imperatives of today's global environment. While organizations and societies reinvent themselves in response to emerging threats and opportunities presented by rapid technological changes and changing socio-economic priorities, this alliance aims to stay ahead and forward-looking.

Among the major objectives is fostering lifelong learning and skill-building. Together, the two institutions will co-create learning materials, organize training programs, and organize workshops and seminars for students, professionals, and members of the general public. The activities are aimed at providing the necessary knowledge and skills to enable individuals to survive in an ever-changing jobs market.

Secondly, the collaboration will seek to establish new academic departments, specialized courses, and research-oriented projects that directly dovetail into real-world applications specifically in the fields of aviation, travel, and services. These academic courses are aimed at strengthening technical acumen, enhancing standards of service, and driving innovation in allied industries.

By leveraging their respective strengths, Chulalongkorn University and Thai Airways aim to close the perennial gap between education and business. University centers of learning establish the critical thinking and theoretical foundation, while the private sector provides practical experience and operational knowledge. By coming together, the two parties hope to synthesize these components to create a balanced, industry-capable workforce.

The collaboration also focuses on knowledge transfer, making certain that research and academic knowledge are translated into practical, quantifiable terms. Ranging from enhancing corporate practices within to enhancing service innovation, the program looks to enhance operational effectiveness and facilitate long-term business growth for both entities.

In addition, this MoU itself stands as a pillar of public-private partnership, showcasing how universities and companies can collaborate to serve the country's challenges, advance innovation, and achieve inclusive and sustainable development.

Displaying Visionary Insights: The President's Distinguished Speaker Series To commemorate the newly formed partnership, Chulalongkorn University hosted the fourth edition of its much-coveted President's Distinguished Speaker Series. The event was conducted under the riveting theme, From Turbulence to Triumph: The Transformation Journey of Thai Airways, providing a platform for insightful debate on leadership, resilience, and strategic recovery.from Recovery to Ascent. The event provided a platform for sharing knowledge and discussion regarding corporate transformation, resilience, and leadership.

    Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat said:

"Today, the function of universities transcends merely providing education it involves learning from experiences in real life. Such experiences are made even more meaningful when we learn from real challenges. It is a privilege to learn from the transformation of Thai Airways, a Thai national organization. Chulalongkorn University and Thai Airways have a shared mission going global, serving as gateways to Thailand. Our endeavors are thus truly in the service of the country".

Dr. Piyasvasti Amranand, commenting on Thai Airways' recovery, said:

"It is now five years since Thai Airways filed for rehabilitation as a business with the Central Bankruptcy Court. In the near future, the court will issue an order ending the process of rehabilitation, which would allow Thai Airways to be a normal public company again and reopen stock trading on the exchange. But all employees must continue to be honest and strong". Don't yield to outside influences otherwise, we will be embarking on the same mistakes of the past. Weakness among staff or executives invites outside intervention, particularly in procurement. I appeal to our leaders to remain firm and stand for what is right.

This partnership is the first step in a new era of how business and academic institutions can co-create value together. It shows a commitment not just to education and innovation but also to co-responsibility in solving social, economic, and environmental issues.

As the partnership matured, it is intended to become a long-term, performance-based relation that supports Thailand's overall aspirations in the areas of inclusive growth, sustainable development, and competitiveness on the world stage. The partnership between Chulalongkorn University and Thai Airways represents a strong model of how cross-sector collaboration can result in dramatic impacts both organizational and national in scope.

With a blend of academic excellence and business acumen, the collaboration is geared to spark similar initiatives in Thailand and other parts of the world, triggering a wave of innovation, excellence, and collaborative action in the years ahead.
