Thai Embassy Hosts PMCA Talks to Foster ASEAN Education Network

    • The PMCA delegation visited Singapore to enhance educational collaboration across ASEAN and beyond.
    • The Award recognises outstanding teachers from ASEAN, Timor-Leste, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mongolia for their impact on students and communities.
    • Discussions focused on expanding awareness of the Award and launching post-award initiatives like forums, training, and cross-border exchanges.

    Her Excellency Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed a delegation from the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation (PMCA) at the Royal Thai Embassy. Led by Dr. Krissanapong Kirtikara, Chairman of the Foundation, the delegation included working teams from Thailand and aimed to strengthen the Foundation’s regional and international mission, with a particular focus on Singapore and ASEAN member states.

    The meeting brought together Team Thailand, Thai private sector representatives in Singapore, officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Education, and former Singaporean recipients of the Princess Maha Chakri Award.

    The delegation shared an overview of the Foundation’s work, which honours Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s dedication to advancing education and improving lives across underserved communities. The prestigious award, presented biennially, recognises exceptional educators from ASEAN countries, as well as Timor-Leste, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Mongolia, for their transformative impact on students and communities.

    Participants engaged in productive discussions about the pivotal role educators play in shaping societies and the need for sustained support for PMCA awardees. Key ideas included expanding international awareness of the award and fostering post-award engagement through initiatives such as the PMCA Forum, capacity-building programmes, and cross-border educational exchanges.

    Ambassador Ureerat reaffirmed the Thai Embassy’s strong commitment to the Foundation’s goals. She emphasized the importance of building teacher networks, elevating the Award’s global profile, and promoting sustainable educational cooperation between Thailand, Singapore, and the wider region.
