Vietnam-India Friendship Celebrated With Tree Planting at Thuyloi

    • Thuyloi University and India’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center co-host tree planting at Student Square to promote environmental awareness and cultural exchange
    • Event held under India’s #Plant4Mother initiative, emphasizing nature protection and climate action
    • Ceremony highlights Vietnam-India friendship, long-standing diplomatic ties, and collaboration in education and sustainability programs

Thuyloi University and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center of the Embassy of India co-organized a tree planting ceremony to commemorate at Student Square, university. The event was a symbolic gesture to enhance the cooperative cooperation and cultural education exchanges between the two nations, as well as to disseminate a message of environment protection for a greener earth.

The planting and gifting of the trees was conducted under the auspices of the international movement #Plant4Mother, initiated by the Government of India to pay tribute to and care for Mother Nature. The movement aims to promote awareness regarding nature protection and support people's involvement in the preservation of nature, co-united actions to counteract climate change, and ecosystem conservation for generations to come.

The diplomatic relationship of Vietnam-India goes as far back as cultural and religious exchange between the two nations 2,000 years ago, and was nurtured and developed by two great leaders Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President Ho Chi Minh. The two countries have been mutually supportive and helpful in their resistance against foreign invasion and in attaining national independence.

In the wars against imperialism and colonialism, Vietnam was constantly getting active, robust, and pragmatic backing from the Government and the nation of India. In 1958, when on an official visit to India, President Ho Chi Minh confirmed: "We believe that this visit will further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between our two countries, while also contributing to the enhancement of solidarity among Asian and African nations and the consolidation of peace in Asia and the world". Since 1978, the two nations have executed a bilateral trade agreement.

Ms. Monica Sharma, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center Representative, Embassy of India, stressed: "Trees symbolize life, a heritage we leave for generations to come. We are convinced that events like today will powerfully promote the cause of environmental protection, and simultaneously foster sustainable diplomatic relations and partnership between India and Vietnam".

Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, President of Thuyloi University, delivered: "Every tree planted here today not only makes our campus more beautiful but also stands as a living witness to the friendship, cooperation, and connection between Vietnam and India. Students will glance this tree daily, and it will also remind them of the responsibility of the young generation towards the environment and international friendship".

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Embassy of India, which has served as a bridge connecting Thuyloi University’s staff and lecturers to 190 universities in India under the annual ITEC Scholarship Program. Over the past decade, more than 50 faculty members of the university have been fully sponsored by the Government of India to participate in short-term training courses covering diverse topics. All the faculty members, having finished their ITEC courses, were greatly impressed by the friendly hospitality, efficient arrangements, and the huge gains they experienced during their stay in India.

The ceremony ended with the message that the Vietnam – India Friendship Tree Planting activity not only helps create a green-clean-beautiful world, but also reflects the strong tie of friendship between the two countries, and their common commitment to defending the environment, protecting nature, and creating a sustainable future for humankind.
