Young Malaysians from Wesley Methodist Schools have put their hopes for the country’s future into writing with the official launch of Warkah untuk Perdana Menteri: Suara Wesleyan, Impian Sebuah Negara Bangsa (Letters to the Prime Minister: Voices of Wesleyans, A Nation’s Aspirations).
The collection of letters and reflections from students and educators across Wesley Methodist Schools and Methodist Government-Aided Schools was launched today by Bishop Dr. T. Jeyakumar, Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia, and Puan Siti Bahijah binti Bakhtiar, Deputy Director of the Services and Multilateral Relations Sector, Private Education Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia.
At its core, the project offers students a platform to speak. Through their letters, contributors share personal hopes for Malaysia, reflect on the society around them, and imagine the kind of future they wish to see. Themes that emerge include unity, integrity, compassion, identity and moral courage, expressed in the students’ own words.
The launch event featured performances by three Wesley Methodist schools: the Wesley Methodist School Ipoh Choir, Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (Private) Choral Speaking, and Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) Dikir Barat. The presentations brought music, language and cultural expression into the celebration, underscoring the schools’ emphasis on holistic development.
Organisers described the publication as more than a compilation of written pieces. It reflects a style of learning that encourages students to think beyond the classroom to question, to listen, to express ideas and to consider how their choices affect others. These habits, they said, form part of growing into individuals who can participate meaningfully in society.

“The voices in Warkah untuk Perdana Menteri are not presented as having all the answers,” the organisers noted. “They are young people learning to find their voice, understand their place and imagine what tomorrow could look like.”
The project aligns with the broader educational philosophy of Wesley Methodist School (WMS). In a rapidly changing world, the schools maintain that education must go beyond academics to prepare students for life. WMS focuses on holistic development of mind, body and spirit, combining academic learning with character formation, social-emotional growth and spiritual guidance.
Character building sits at the centre of Methodist education at WMS. Values such as integrity, respect for life, excellence with humility and God-centredness are emphasised through classroom discussions, leadership opportunities and community service. The aim is to equip students to lead with compassion and contribute meaningfully to society.
Faith-based elements, including regular chapel services and spiritual programmes, provide a moral foundation intended to help students navigate challenges with purpose. The overall approach seeks to shape well-rounded individuals ready for both personal and professional life, combining knowledge with the integrity and values needed to make a positive impact.
The launch of Warkah untuk Perdana Menteri serves as a reminder that education is not only about preparing students for the future. It is also about helping them recognise that they already have a role to play in shaping it. By giving young voices a formal platform, the Methodist education community underscores the belief that students’ perspectives on unity, integrity and national aspiration deserve to be heard.
