Applications Open for 2026 Tsinghua Amgen Scholars Program

    • Amgen Scholars Program expands global research opportunities, offering an 8-10 week summer research experience for undergraduates in biomedical science.
    • Tsinghua University leads Asia’s participation, selecting 12 outstanding students for lab mentorship, stipends, accommodation, and academic seminars in 2026.
    • Program combines hands-on research with cultural exchange, networking, and skill-building to prepare future biomedical scientists worldwide.

The Amgen Scholars Program (ASP), an internationally recognized initiative funded by the Amgen Foundation and guided by Harvard University, continues to expand global research opportunities for undergraduates aspiring to build careers in biomedical science. Designed as an intensive eight- or ten-week summer research experience, the program brings together outstanding students from around the world to work on advanced research projects under the mentorship of leading faculty members, while also participating in seminars, networking events, and regional symposia.

From 2025 to 2027, the program will be hosted by 25 premier universities and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada. In Asia, five institutions have been selected as hosts: Tsinghua University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad. Among these, Tsinghua University plays a key role, with its School of Pharmaceutical Sciences serving as the principal coordinating unit for the program.

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has long been a cornerstone of Tsinghua University’s advancement in life sciences and frontier biomedical research. For the 2026 cohort, the university will select 12 exceptional undergraduate students currently studying in Asia. Selected scholars will receive comprehensive support during the program, including coverage for meals and accommodation in student apartments or on-campus hotels, along with stipends and transportation assistance.

Each participant will be paired with a faculty mentor who will guide them throughout the research period. Scholars will actively engage in laboratory work and collaborate closely with postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and graduate students. Beyond hands-on research, the program offers a rich academic environment through lectures, discussions, and seminars that expose students to cutting-edge developments in biomedical science. These experiences are intended to deepen students’ research interests, strengthen their technical skills, and lay a strong foundation for future academic and professional pursuits.

In addition to academic training, the program places strong emphasis on cultural exchange and personal growth. Networking sessions and cultural exploration activities are organized to help scholars build international friendships and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. Many past participants have described the experience as both academically transformative and personally enriching.

“Our program has proven to be deeply meaningful”, said a representative from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tsinghua University. “Scholars who participated between 2019 and 2025 consistently shared that the experience had a profound impact on their academic paths and left them with lasting memories”.

In recent years, Tsinghua University has actively promoted the cultivation of diverse, innovation-driven talent while strengthening international collaboration. Building on the success of previous Amgen Scholars cohorts, the university reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a high-quality program in partnership with the Amgen Foundation. University officials expressed confidence that the upcoming editions of the program will continue to inspire young researchers and contribute to the global advancement of biomedical science.
