SGU and Taaleem Open Medical Pathways for UAE Students

St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Taaleem, one of the UAE’s leading K-12 education providers, to create structured pathways for students interested in careers in medicine. The agreement gives eligible students across Taaleem’s network of schools preferential access to admissions routes into SGU’s Doctor of Medicine programmes, scholarship support and academic guidance designed to ease the transition from secondary education to medical school.

The partnership arrives at a strategic moment. The UAE continues to prioritise the development of domestic healthcare talent. The federal Nafis National Healthcare Programme, overseen by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, aims to qualify 10,000 Emiratis in medical and healthcare specialties within five years through academic programmes, training and scholarships. By linking high-school students directly to an internationally recognised medical school, the SGU-Taaleem affiliation supports this national objective and helps widen access to medical education.

Students who complete the International Baccalaureate, A-Levels or a US High School Diploma and meet SGU’s entry requirements may apply to the university’s MD tracks. Successful applicants can begin their studies either at SGU’s campus in Grenada or at Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom, under SGU’s long-standing partnership with the British institution. The affiliation also offers dedicated admissions support, guaranteed interview opportunities and access to SGU’s Global Scholarship Program, which can provide up to USD 80,000 in support for eligible international students. Additional financial assistance may be available to qualifying candidates.

Once enrolled, SGU medical students gain clinical training through a network of more than 75 affiliated hospitals and health centres across the United States and the United Kingdom. These placements give students practical exposure to patient care and help them develop the clinical knowledge, professionalism and skills required for successful careers in healthcare.

Founded in 1976, St. George’s University is an international institution whose students and faculty come from more than 150 countries. Its School of Medicine is accredited by the Grenada Medical and Dental Council, which has been recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education. SGU offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine degree as well as five-, six- and seven-year entry tracks that accommodate students from diverse education systems. The university’s extensive clinical network in the US and UK is a distinctive feature, allowing students to gain experience in a variety of healthcare settings before graduation.
