St. George's University, Dwight Seoul Partner On Medical Education

    • St. George’s University School of Medicine partnered with Dwight School Seoul to create a defined pathway for South Korean students into SGU’s five-year MD (MD5) program.
    • The agreement allows eligible Dwight School Seoul graduates to progress directly into medical studies, combining pre-clinical education, basic sciences, and clinical training.
    • Students gain access to SGU’s extensive global clinical network, with rotations across the US and UK, supported by mentoring, workshops, and potential scholarships.

St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, has announced a new three-year affiliation with Dwight School Seoul, establishing a clear academic pathway for students in South Korea to pursue a global medical education. Through this partnership, students at Dwight School Seoul will have the opportunity to progress into SGU’s five-year Doctor of Medicine (MD5) track, providing early access to an internationally oriented medical degree programme.

Under the terms of the agreement, eligible graduates of Dwight School Seoul may enroll in SGU’s MD5 track upon completion of their diploma. The MD5 programme is designed to integrate preclinical education, foundational medical sciences, and clinical training in a structured format that prepares students for medical practice in diverse healthcare systems. The pathway supports students from the early stages of medical education through to hands-on clinical experience, equipping them with the academic knowledge and practical skills required for global medical careers.

A key strength of the SGU medical programme is its extensive clinical training network. Students enrolled in the MD track gain access to clinical placements at more than 75 affiliated hospitals and clinical centres across the United States and the United Kingdom. These clinical rotations immerse students in real-world patient care environments and expose them to international standards of medical practice. The training emphasises professional values such as integrity, accountability, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to lifelong learning, which are essential for modern medical professionals.

Aurelie Lily Phommarack, Associate Director of International Affiliations at SGU, said the partnership offers aspiring physicians at Dwight School Seoul a supported and structured route into an accredited medical programme. She noted that SGU will guide qualified students from Seoul into its MD5 track while providing access to clinical training opportunities in the US or UK, helping graduates develop the competence and compassion needed to serve patients effectively.

Kaleena Carter, Director of University and Career Counseling at Dwight School Seoul, expressed pride in becoming an SGU-affiliated high school in South Korea. She highlighted that the collaboration expands post-graduation opportunities for students by aligning the school’s International Baccalaureate curriculum with a defined medical education pathway and SGU’s global training network.

Through the affiliation, Dwight School Seoul students benefit from a simplified application process to SGU’s MD tracks, along with partial scholarship opportunities, guaranteed interviews, and access to SGU’s Global Medic Club. This online learning platform provides exclusive educational content, mentorship, and early exposure to medical studies, helping students make informed decisions about their future careers.

Beyond admissions advantages, SGU will actively engage with students through webinars, workshops, career-focused sessions, and advisory events. These initiatives offer practical insights into studying medicine and pursuing a medical career internationally, reinforcing the partnership’s goal of preparing students not only for medical school admission but also for long-term success in the global healthcare profession.
