Malaysia to Offer Graduate Plus Visas for Bangladeshi Students

    • Malaysia to introduce Graduate Plus visas for Bangladeshi students, enabling high-skilled employment opportunities.
    • Policy discussed during Professor Muhammad Yunus’s meetings with Malaysian ministers in Kuala Lumpur.
    • Talks also covered scholarships, degree recognition, and expanding student–faculty exchange programs.

Malaysia is planning to introduce Graduate Plus visas for Bangladeshi students, a step that would enable thousands to secure high-skilled employment in the nation's expanding economy.

The issue was raised during a meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Malaysian Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir at Kuala Lumpur's Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

"We had fruitful talks with the minister. On principle, he has promised to grant Graduate Pass visas to Bangladeshi students in Malaysia. However, both sides have to do some formalties before the policy can be implemented", said Law, Justice and Overseas Recruitment Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, who joined the meeting along with Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain.

At present, there are approximately 10,000 Bangladeshi students studying in Malaysian universities. International students from other nations have access to Malaysia's job market, whereas Bangladeshi students are still denied this benefit.

Earlier during the day on Wednesday, Malaysian Education Minister Fadhlina binti Sidek met Professor Yunus in Kuala Lumpur to talk about increasing scholarships, increasing student and faculty exchange programmes, and gaining Malaysian recognition for Bangladeshi degrees.

The Malaysian minister also paid attention to Yunus's 'Three Zero' initiative, which seeks to eradicate poverty and unemployment and cut carbon emissions to zero. "Unless you envision a world without poverty, it won't happen", Yunus declared, calling on global leaders to strive towards a non-destructive and sustainable civilisation.

Professor Yunus invited the Malaysian education minister to Dhaka to enhance educational cooperation. Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, and Senior Secretary on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed attended the meeting.
