The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia has announced the opening of applications for the prestigious Japanese Government Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarships for the 2027 academic year, offering Malaysian students a unique opportunity to pursue higher education in Japan. These scholarships are highly sought after for their comprehensive support, covering tuition fees, entrance and examination fees, round-trip airfare, and a generous monthly living allowance. For undergraduate, College of Technology (Kosen), and specialised training college students, the allowance is approximately 117,000 yen (around RM3,000), while postgraduate students receive 143,000 yen per month, providing financial security to focus fully on their studies.

Malaysian applicants can apply under four categories: undergraduate, College of Technology (Kosen), specialised training college, and postgraduate studies. Each category comes with specific eligibility criteria. Undergraduate and diploma applicants are required to be between 18 and 25 years old by April 1, 2027, and must have completed secondary education qualifications such as SPM, STPM, A-Level, UEC, matriculation, or a diploma. For postgraduate studies, applicants must be below 35 years old and hold at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with a strong academic record reflected in a minimum CGPA of 3.4.

The scholarship is designed not only to support academic growth but also to encourage cultural exchange and international understanding. Students selected for the MEXT Scholarship will have the opportunity to study in one of the world’s most technologically advanced and culturally rich countries, gaining exposure to innovative teaching methods, cutting-edge research facilities, and a vibrant academic community. The experience is expected to broaden perspectives, enhance professional skills, and foster lifelong connections with peers from around the globe.

By providing full financial coverage and access to top-tier institutions, the program empowers students to focus on their academic goals, explore new ideas, and develop skills that will contribute to both their personal success and the advancement of Malaysia’s academic and professional landscape.
